I had a small Rule pump about 1100 gph in the keel of the 38 when we bought it, it was a automatic that came on every 2.5 minutes and ran for a few seconds. If it senced water in those few seconds it would stay on until the water was gone. When it went bad I was going to replace with the same pump but after reading some reviews (all bad) I went with the same type Rule pump without the auto feature. They look identical but the failure rate on the auto was in the 6 to 8 month range in all the reviews I read.

Seems my forward manual bilge pump just failed...where exactly IS it? I know the automatic forward bilge pump is under the floor hatch in the guest stateroom, but I can't seem to locate the forward manual pump's location...

UPDATE: I recall the water flow goes after when I'm looking in the forward stateroom floor hatch...so, I'll bet it's in the keel under the steps that go from the salon down to the galley. Anyone? (The PO rebuilt the steps, and I can't see how he attached them. Looks like I'll have to partially disassemble the steps, but I need to pick up a square drive bit over lunch to do that.)

TIA!
Dave

On my 3870 you can access the forward pump from the little hatch in the corner next to the mid cabin berth.
Same hatch you can check your water tank

On my 1989 3888 both the manual and auto pumps are accessed via the water tank inspection panel in the mid berth. The manual pump is set in the keel and is rather difficult to access whereas the auto pump sits higher therefore easier to change when necessary.

I agree with Jim. Both of my forward pumps are under the floor panel in the mid bedroom. He is right about the manual pump being hard to get to to replace.

Yep, same on my 1989 3888, manual pump is sitting in the keel cavity, you can see the discharge hose but not the pump from the mid berth access hatch on the floor.
