I'm trying to locate a vendor for the wireless short range headsets. I think they would be handy for docking and anchoring. Where is the best place to buy these?

Thanks all.

The eartec thing is certainly very nice but you can also get a pair of wireless head sets at Radio Shack for $50 or so. Even Toys R Us has very functional kiddie versions for less.

We tried the wireless headsets from Radio Shack and also purchased VOX mic's for our motorola family channel 2 way radios. Both worked OK but had the same proble. The voice activated mic (Vox) needs some input to get it to "key". So you have to get in the habit of saying something to key the mic in advance of saying your message. For example, you need to say "AAAH, tighten that bow line Honey" or all Honey will hear is "that bow line Honey". The first work is often lost somewhere in the mic keying function. My wife is hearing impared and when you add that to the mic issues... really frustrating. The eartech has 2 way keyless communication, just like a telephone.

I have the Eartec system and like it very well. The reason it works so well is that it is duplex. A different frequency is used for talk and listen so you can do both at the same time. Eartec modified mine to run on a 9 volt battery. I wanted something that I could always make work without having to depend on their rechargeable battery.

I tried the Motorola and Radio Shack products and found that a voice activated system working only in simplex mode just does not work on a boat. I agree, many words were lost or they would key up in response to wind or mechanical noise.

An advertisement for some brand of wireless communications headsets was emailed to me. Way too coincidental to my having posted . Somebody is exploiting the marketing potential of the forum.

Hi-
My wife and I purchased the Toys R' Us walkie talkie headsets about six years ago. They are easy to use and definitely were worth the $18. The glue used to keep the foam against the ear part did not last long so electrical tape now works. We occasionally forget to turn them off and end up replacing a battery. Other than that they have functioned perfectly for what we purchased them for. I queried using Google on the John Deere Walkie Talkie mentioned earlier. If we were going to replace our Toys R' Us headsets I would probably take a risk on the John Deere sets; they sound like they are identical to our current ones.
