The 120v battery charger on my 3888 seems to have died

I get no variance in 12v system when it is turned on.

My question is whether anyone has repaired one and what is likely to be wrong?.

It seems to make some noise when it is on but no action where it counts.

No blown breakers that I can see.

Wayne

most people have replace their old pro-mariner with a new unit from the same manufacturer. they will give you a credit for your old unit and i did not have to send in the old unit. The old units are nicknamed "battery boilers" and i would not try to fix it. Good Luck

There are a lot of heavy, discreet diodes in the secondary of that charger and it is likely that one or more of them have failed. They are easily replaced by someone with minimal electronic skills. Like me.

Do not repair the old original Pro Mariner charger. I know of 2 38s that have burned to water line because of that charger. Replace it. I think Pro Mariner even has a discount availiable to folks that have them to replace them ASAP.

Hi Wayne

Mine worked OK when under the 110V 60Hz system generator but for some reason didn't like the 110V 50Hz through the transformer, I am sure it was going from 60Hz to 50Hz. Any way I scrapped it and have gone to 3 separate 12 amp, 3 stage chargers 1 for each battery. These were quite in expensive and so far seems to have worked well.
