We ran across this disaster over the weekend in the Gulf Islands. It was at the entrance to Winter Cove on Saturna Island.

What a shame to see a 130' classic tall ship ruined. And even worse, it was on a clearly charted rock. Both the raster and vector charts on my PC showed the rock exactly where this boat was....

Here's the full story.

It looks like it's been stripped of everything useful.
Here's the pic from the newspaper - from about a week ago.

Very sad loss of a historical ship. We heard of the grounding on the VHF and listened teh whole day as they were trying to contain a spill and get her off. We cruised right by there on Saturday - I should have gone in and taken a look...

Etienne,

I saw your boat in Friday Harbor on the 4th. You weren't around your boat though when we went by in the dinghy or I would have stopped in to say hi. We were anchored over at Fisherman Bay for the fireworks but came over in the dink for the parade in Friday Harbor. Hope you had a good 4th.

Sorry we missed you SteveE - we must have been in town watching the parade. We did manage to meet no less than three BOC and IBNW members - it was great to put a face to the names.

Here's an update, although I don't know any actual details. We stopped in Winter Cove on our way back from desolation sound a few days ago and the ship is still there. It appears the salvage operation is not going well.

The mast has been taken off and is tied off and floating in Winter Cove.
