First, welcome to the BOC! :) Just so you know, most of us flunked mind reading, so clue us in on what kind of boat. The generic answer though, works for most boats, is sit on your throw cushion.

Just received a SPRINGFIELD height adj pedestal from Motorheadzone off eBay. It also has "air ride".... kind of like height adjustable office chairs. My original was so weathered/ pitted that it wouldn't slide or swivel. I did notice several different styles while looking. They had some that extended and tightened with a knob for height too...

Welcome!!
Like Jeff mentioned, if you put your boat info and location in your signature it really helps.
You can sometimes get longer bolts and place a piece of 2x6 between the seat and pedestal.
You need six inches though, so you will need an extension. Most marine suppliers have seat and table tubes. If you want cheap, check with an exhaust/muffler shop. They can cut a chunk and weld it on.

Mount it on top of a set of sliders so you can move it forward and backward and then "doll" it up and mount the seat itself on a rotating stand . . . . voila!! the best of all worlds - a seat that can spin in place and lock at the 90 degree spots and can also move forward and backward!!! :woohoo:
