So I did it again. Waxed off a half dozen beers before heading to the boat ramp and forgot to put the plug in before launching boat. Swamped it completely and spent 2 hours bailing all the water out. The people at the boat ramp were laughing away at what I did.

Anybody got any tips for remembering to put the plug in?

Don't drink 6 beers and drive or boat.

I always put the plug on the dash at the key switch. So I can see it.

Keep off the beer till you launch. :P

Try hanging it off the steering wheel in a ziplok bag as a reminder.

I store my boat ignition key, "red" battery cut-off key and plug in a ziplock bag.
All three items are required before I launch my boat.

When I had a trailered boat I would pull the plug after it was on the trailer to drain any water and put the plug right back in. I would always double check though before next launch.

Glad the problem kept you off the water after downing six beers.

Beer aside, I always leave my plug out when on the hard, but leave it taped to the winch handle. Pretty hard to forget it when launching.

Simple checklist. Keep it on the dash of your truck.

1. Insert plug
2. Go back inside
3. Drink more beer
4. Boat tomorrow

I suppose this means you drove your vehicle while intoxicated as well. If so I'm glad it took you so long to bail out your boat as hopefully you were sober for the drive home.

When I was younger and had a trailer able boat I didn't drink until after the boat was in the water, we had skied, and we were safely anchored. Now I am older with a bigger boat and now I don't drink until the boat is safely anchored or tied up at dock at the end of the day. Six beers before dropping in to the water? You should be in jail.

As per the beer : no comment.

To avoid forgetting it in the future, you can tie the bottom plug to your boat keys

To limit damage after it's already occurred , you can Install a cheap battery powered household water alarm in the bilge . They cost next to nothing on eBay and will emit an ear piecing sound if water gets to a certain level your bilge so you can pull out the boat again immediately.

I enjoyed the video, the lady commenting at the end was priceless "this is the 5 th time that boat has sank from stupid $h1t "

Ummmm....how bout don't drink till you figure out how to be responsible enough? Makes it easier to remember things. Luckily your drunk self swamped and you weren't able to kill anybody.

My drain plug has a wire and clip that is supposed to be clipped to the oil drain hose. I keep it clipped to the boat key ring. Haven't forgot it yet but there is a first time for everything.
