Looks like I have oil dripping out of the bottom of the est distributor of my 2002 1952 3.0 motor on top of the fuel pump when I run at 3600 to 3800 rpm,s for 20 min. or more. The motor only has 74 hours on it but when I removed the dist. cap the breaker plate, module and pick up coil have oil all over them. Does it sound like the bushing for the shaft are worn? or does it have a seal for the shaft? No leaks anywhere else on the motor. Time for a new distributor?? or is this repairable? Thanks

# 11 in the diagram ...

Someone ether tore it, or was never replaced when the dist. was off.

Cheap fix.

Chief that looks like the gasket where the distributor housing mates to the block which would explain the oil leaking onto the fuel pump but not the oil getting into the inside of the distributor; would not it have to be the shaft seal?

You know Mike I should have asked him to put up a picture of what he has now.

Then we would know what's missing.

Hi all the gasket for the dist. is in place and there is no oil leak at that point. Only leaks oil inside of the dist. and than it dips out the bottom of the breaker place to on top of the fuel pump. It took me awhile to find the leak, at first I though it was the fuel pump casting bleeding oil.

With the cap off can you wobble the rotor side to side? If so the seal failed due to a bad bushing.

This should be repairable or replace the entire distributor.

BTY: a 2002 should not have points (breaker plate) but be electronic.

Dizzy shaft seal - I've seen these go before and when they do the diz get's oil in it - that's why there is an oil drain hole on them so when the seal goes it doesn't fill up totally with oil...
Cheap fix to pull it out, remove the pinion and shaft then whack in a new seal... or just buy a new dizzy (easy option).

I have been out of town the last two days looking at new homes in central oregon so I will pull the dist. out next week and pull it apart and see if the shaft or bushings are bad. I don.t see a seal listed in the parts info so I want to see if it comes with one or not. It is electronic dist. I,am just old school and call it a breaker plate, maybe I should say module or pick up plate?? I have ordered a new unit from i boats because I don,t want to take any changes. The shaft feels tight right now but its still engaged in the cam gear and oil pump. The hours are so low on this boat but who knows I did buy it used. If I did,nt have a old boat to work on I would be looking for something not as run to do. Thanks for all your input.
