I found a 2004 185BR 3.0L in nice condition with the exception of a motor that froze up over the winter.

For $3,500 with a trailer it seems like it could be an opportunity.

Can anyone advise how much an engine repair/rebuild/replace should run?

How big of a project would it be to put in a 4.3? Does that require a new out drive, etc.

Thank you in advance for the input.

Rapido Marine has good prices on motors etc and they seem to be a good honest company.
DO NOT EVEN GO NEAR REMANUFACTURED.COM OR REBUILT.COM
UNLESS YOU WANT TO GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY AND NOT RECEIVE YOUR MOTOR.

You might check out Michigan Motors. They are about the best and can send you a drop in with everything already run/tested/ready.

$2k plus shipping from MM.
This is an easy replacement and could be done in a day for an inexperienced person who has some basic mechanical skills.
You will spend almost as much time learning how-to, and doing the engine alignment as you will installing this engine.
Piece of cake!

To do a 4.3L conversion..... you are looking at doing engine mounts as well as exhaust Y pipe installation.... and possibly mods for that.... plus new exhaust mans/risers, changing drive ratio, not to mention an engine harness. Will a 4.3L fit inside of the engine cover?
