Notice the side of the boat before and after. Split the side open.

He saw his wife on the beach, looking at his cell phone and he wanted to grab it from her before she started reaching for a golf club ala ms. woods!

a crazy and deliberate stunt. That beach must have some sudden drop off for him to be able to hit the beach with that kind of speed, otherwise the prop would have dug in and stopped him way sooner.

A stuck throttle isn't fun, but I doubt that's what happened here.

However, we rented a small RIB a few years ago in Antigua - never again! It had an old Johnson engine, and the throttle stuck - similar to the Del Boy jetski scene in the UK sitcom. Had to go round in circles before pulling the fuel line.

That is not an unusual way for those people to beach their boats, I've seen it many times. He just came in a little "hot" and didn't come straight in. I also believe that that's sand on the hull and not a split. Those things are tanks.
Most of them, by the way, run Yami's. Don't ask me why.

I rented a small speedboat on a recent trip to Punta Cana.

"James Bond for a day".

The boat was about 12' long with a Yamaha 25 for power. You get in these things and follow a lead boat to a raft and go snorkeling in the ocean.

So far, so good, right?

When you get to the raft, anchored some distance from shore, you are instructed to drive your boat up to a waiting attendant, who is neck deep in the water waiting to grab the rope.

The outboard is LOCKED in forward; there is NO NEUTRAL!

They rely on the kill switch lanyard to stop the engine so you sort of "coast" up to the attendant. Kill switches (or for that matter ANYTHING mechanical in the Dominican Republic) can be unreliable.

All it would take would be some neophyte to accelerate instead of slow down and the guy would have his head chopped off by the prop.

And these guys do this EVERY DAY!

He's practicing to be the next captain of the New Carissa II !
With enough practice, it will avoid the cost of this:
