This thing is out in Seattle. Any of you guys out there seen this monstrosity? It looks like the designers of that "yacht" in Canada and these people were working off similar plans! This one appears to stay upright however, with the "4000 lbs of lead ballast for stability."

Isn't owning a boat always an ongoing restoration?

Words fail me.

This is indeed a rare vessel. Seldom do we see a general lack of balance and proportion combined with so many specifically ugly details.

I am not expert, but there seem to some basic safety issues:
The aft ladder is very steep and does not have handrails.
The doors at the bottom of the port and starboard stairways have an unnaturally high step down.

I think there is a lesson here: Just because you can weld, doesn't mean you should.

I think if you put wheels on it, you could drive it as the motor home it was designed to be.

It looks like a take off of a Lake Erie commercial fishing boat. They have been using these things on Erie for over 80 years fishing pickeral and perch mostly.

That is exactly what I thought.

We have a few of them up here, also....as a matter of fact, one is for sale on Kijijji, and the ad suggests it could be a great live aboard (if you could ever get the fist smell out):)

lolar3828 & spitfire:

I saw the resemblance as well. The difference is that the Ontario fishing tugs, while not particularly elegant, do they job for which they were designed and therefore have a utilitarian beauty. The fishing tugs also have the advantage in that their designer and owners don't try to be "clever".

For those who have not had the pleasure of boating in Lake Erie or Lake Ontario, here is an example.
