Hi!!

Im looking for a wakeboard tower for our 2007 175, and was wondering which are good, but also cheap!
it will only be getting moderate use and with, only a light wakeboarder.
Could you point me on the right directionas to where i may source one?
and also, how must structural strengthening would i need to do to the boat beforhand, or does it just bolt str8 on with the plates?

Many thanks

been in that search before - first cheap is relative to how much you want to spend? You can get the type with the front straps that go around the bow for the cheapest, but still looking at around $ 900 or so if i recall. Of course that means you will have to duck under the high wire and they look terrible.

the good ones are pricey like everything else - - you will be looking at around $ 1,800 by the time you get the tower and holders for your boards.

And yes - you will need to support it with something on the back side....otherwise it will pull thru under the stress. Some talk about using stainless plates and others have backed it with plywood.

You can get good, or you can get cheap.

You should be able to get a Roswell like mine for about 1600 CDN

I just put a Monster MT1 on my 07 175 this month and I'm happy with it. (You can still go wakeboarding in 8 degree Celius water if you really want to try a new tower :) ) The image shows where I have things mounted and the front mounts are on a place that is already strengthened.

I also got their blemished version which was another $100 off the regular price and there are no significant scatches on it.

FYI - when i talked to several boat dealers I was told that the boats that come with the tower have backing in the area of the mount - this is in addition to how the boat is manufactured. In short the area of the mount may be beefed up a little, but you will still definitely need to put a backing plate in. It's no big deal, but it needs to be done.

When I installed mine, I put new glass in for the rear mounts, went 20" x 6" long, then another layer with 6x6 pieces 18" long, then 16x6" then 6 inch pieces 14" long, ended with 12x4. I then put glassed in a heavy piece of plastic for the last step. I went from 1/8" thick to close to 1/2". The tower really puts stress on the boat, I know it would have never held up without backing.

Oy! If there is a lesson here, I suppose it's.. buy it new with the tower already installed.

Agree 100%.......something cheap is gonna hurt someone. I trust that by "good but cheap", the OP meant an inexpensive good one.

Cheap and Boat, there are 2 words that never seems to go hand and hand. :D

I would try boat bone yards, you may find something there.

You may want to try the following link that I located from a google search.

http://www.onlyinboards.com/ski-boat-accessories/wakeboard-tower.html?gclid=CLfWuJjt0Z8CFUGF7Qod3DMWyw

I don't have any experience with this company. But they appear to have several models in different price ranges.

I don't know if any other BOC members have had any experience with this company.

However, I agree with the rest of the comments that cheap and good really don't mix when it comes to boats. IMO, you really get what you pay for.

Along with the Monster Towers mentioned before, look into DIY Wake as well. Both have a very loyal following. http://www.diywake.com

If you are really only going to use it occasionally, and you are on a tight budget, you may want to check into Insanity Pylons. No permanent installation. Goes up and down within a few minutes and should give your wakeboarder the same experience for only a few hundred.

I have yet to pull the trigger myself but am looking at all three based on user reviews and comments on wake boarding forums.
