Im in the market for a speargun. Getting into spearfishing up here in the PNW. Friday Im headed to Maui and Im going to try it out with sling spears.
When I get back though, Im thinking a 44" JBL 38special.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Im probably moving to Los Angeles in a year so I'd like something that would be useful there too.

I'm not sure what is commonly used in the pnw, but in southern california I would look into something in 55" range with a mid handle. Check out the california section of spearboard.com .

A lady at a scuba store told me shorter ones are used up here for lingcod because they are dumb and slow and you can get real close to them. They hide in nooks and crannies so you need to get in close and poke around for them.
