I saw a gadget on amazon that you could pop out a cup holder and put a rod holder into it. anyone have experience with something like this sort of gadget? i own a 266 discovery (brand new) with a fishing package but it only has two gunwale rodholders and we usually drift with four or more rod active.

. . . yeah, actually like the concept but don't know how they might work with a fish (o'm'god . . . . gotta catch one first, huh?) on the line . . . seems like there might be an awful lot of leverage created by the rod upon the first strike and that might just bend and pop the holder out of the pocket . . and then - gone is the holder and the rod and reel . .. . :oop- . . . . . oh yeah, and the fish!

I think i would want to see more than one customer review before buying... I already have two of those heavy duty
Suction cup holders to try. my 266 discovery only has two gunwale rod holders but FOUR cup holders...

Wish my boat had four cup holders, to go with the four rod holders.
Do use only strong rod holders, A beer over board is a lot better than a $500 fishing rod or one of my $1,000 elec rigs

I guess it all depends where your cup holders are located. I'd be tripping over my fishing rods if tried this on my 245. Even if the concept is good, I wouldn't trust it for more than fresh water trolling for trout.

I checked them out after popping the cup holders from the transom -- although they fit, they look like crap as the snap tap area is not
covered by the rim -- leaving a hole which would allow water into the area underneath the holder and negate the tube drains Bayliner thoughtfully installed with the cupholders. I will likely be going with aft grab rail-mounted holders instead.

Bayliner should have made the aft cup holders rod holders ANYWAY.
