Out of curiosity, where do you go cruising from Ramsgate? Do people cross the channel? Are there good cruising or fishing grounds close by?

LaHavre was the first place I'd ever had a pizza with a egg cooked on it. I thought maybe I ordered the wrong thing at first.

22 miles from Ramsgate to France, you can see France on a clear day...in the summer the marina is full of visiting boats, French, Belgium etc...the area near here has nice sandy bays with high chalk cliffs, further round the coast you can enter the Thames.
Go the other way you have Dover busy shipping lanes.Fishing is good with many hot spots, but we have the famous Goodwin Sands just off the coast, a moving sand bank , taken many boats and ships over the years... Many of the guys do booze cruises to France, get cheap wine and beer....So yes the English channel is a busy place...but the weather can turn on you...Marty.

you bring up a good point Marty, At what point when crossing the channel does it change from English Channel to French Channel?

Here's a "reverse view". I work in River North on the Chicago River. If you know where to look, you can see right into my office.

Sounds like a nice area. I've never been to your part of England. I used to travel there often on business; but most of it was to Manchester, Liverpool, and Isle of Wight.

I like the thought of that, in fact the English channel finishes further down the coast past Dover. It then becomes the Strait of Dover our side, Pas da Calais there side, there is a white line in the middle thou......

Wow, only 22 miles! That's about the distance from our launch ramp to the dam at the south end of the lake. :)
