so here is my project boat in it's current condition. I stripped the entire boat down. What prompted the rebuild? The 2 big holes in the floor from rot. I pulled out the floor to find that several of the stringers have rotted away as well. Out they came.

I ground everything down, and replaced all the bad ones with new. I glassed everything in, added the new floor, and glassed it in as well (something that bayliner should have done in the first place ).

So the floor is in, and glassed. (8 gallons of glass in total, and lots of Mat). I'm am just finishing up the carpet and custom build new seats. I added a Captains chair, and re configured the other seating to make an "L" across the back and passanger side. (I trashed the back to back seats, I don't like them).

I went with a light grey marine carpet. (original color was blue) I am in process of carpeting the entire boat.

I soon will be delivering it to have the entire boat interior re-skinned with some new vinyl. (funds permitting)

I also have a new bimini top on the way.

all said and done I'll be into about $5,500 for the restore. this is a boat that I have had for about 12 years and it's been a great runner. I couldn't see spending what a new boat runs.

With my restore I'll basically have a new boat for alot less than a new and most used.

I will say that this had been alot of work, mostly just alot of time and sweat involved. it will all be worth it in the end.

I'd didn't document the rebuild very well, but I will have some pics of the boat up to day tonight. I'll post some up. I also have some before pics so you can see what I started with. I'll be sure to post some of the boat when it's completed as well.

here are some photos.....

Looks like a nice job to me. You must really like that boat. It looks like you're changing the seating arrangement on the port side. Is it a big wrap around lounge now? I think that would be an improvement over the before shots with the back 2 back right in front of the bench seat.

I look forward to seeing the final product.
Keep up the great work.

Man your doing a great job there. I have a ton of respect for the fellas who can bring a boat back yo life. Anyone can buy a new boat but the pride of fixing one is a whole new ballgame.
Congratulation on a job well done.
Cheers

thanks for the great responses.

I took the boat out yesterday (great fathersday :arr ) I had the wife and kids with me and took the one of the nephews too.

we had a great time. :D

this is the first time that the boat has seen the water in almost 2 years. I've pretty much completed the restoration. I have a nice new Attwood captains chair with flip up bolster installed.

I have changed the seating configuration to a wrap around "L" shape, removing the back to back seating on the port side.

I've also installed a new bimini top with SS hardware.

It goes in for a complete re-upholstery on July 20th. the colors of the new seats will match my captains chair (off white w/ Navy blue accents).

once I get it back from the upholstery shop I'll get some final pictures posted. I"m looking foward to having a "brand new" old boat.

Overall the boat ran great. and we had tons of fun. I have 4 on the towable and just had a great time on the lake.

Pictures will follow. I'm also taken her out the weekend after I get her back. I'm very excited :arr :D

i have the same make and modle and hve most of the inside back. I am going to repower mine now with a new 350 some time soon. I never considered doing a l shaple seating arrangement, but my seats are still in great shape. I did up grade gages and replace the pottie door and ice box panels with star board, its great stuff....your boat is looking good and like you we have a lot of boat for the little bit of money spent...

a re power will be in store for me in a few years. I'll also be going with the 5.7 litre 350. I agree about the money spent vs. what I'll end up with. It not a new boat but almost.

if you have pics I'd love to see them.

I have new Upholstery.... I pick up her up from the Shop on Thursday, then work sent me to Virginia for the rest of the week, that killed the boating trip I had planned. I just got the pics taken tonight. I love the way it turned out. with the new seat configuration it's a one of a kind 1987 bayliner 2150 bowrider.

Let me know what you think.

Excellent work! I really like the new seating arangement.

The drivers seat... Is that flip up for increased operating height? Where did you get it?

I purchased that paticular seat on ebay, iboats.com also has them for a pretty descent price ( different vinyl pattern, but the same seat). It's an Attwood Avenir seat.

thanks Doug, I'm very please with the job that the Upholstery shop did. I just took in some sketches and the boat and they turned it into a reality.

That shop did a heckuva job! Nice. lots more room now. How does the 2150 compare to my 1950- just the extra length basically or is it wider too?

it has a beam just less than 8ft. Not sure if it's wider or not. It's it has lots of room, a small room for a porta potty with cabinet and light, and I think is quite a bit deeper than the 1950.

WOW!!!

The entire boat looks awesome. Not only is the upholstery look great, but the changes you made to the cockpit seating arrangement are a great improvement.

Well done, now go enjoy your hard work. :)

thanks for the comment so far...

We spent yesterday on the lake, got some tubing, skiing and had a whole lot of fun.

here is a shot of the nice new deep blue shine.... alot of work went into achieving it. before it almost looked gray with the oxidizing finish.

A wet sand, some rubbing compound, polish and wax will get you this. not to bad for a 20 year old hull.

definitely deeper and wider it looks like to me, but where is the porta potty? didn't see a cabin of any kind in your pics. very nice finish on the hull. that is my next chore too.

if you look at post #1 pic 4 you can see the doors the room that the porta potty sits in. in pic 3 on post #2 you can see the inside with the cabinet, towel holder, and toilet paper spool. it comes in very handy when out on the lake.
