This was posted on the old site, repeated here.

I looked into installing an ice machine on our boat. There were a couple of drawbacks. One, the cost. A U-Line ice machine is about $1500 CAN. Two, the power needs...you either need to be plugged in to 110V or have tons of batteries and an inverter...more $$$.

So I chose the easy way out. I sourced and purchased a Waeco 25L freezer. The Waeco runs on 12V, uses a Danfoss compressor, and is adjustable from +10C down to minus 18C.

So I buy a 3lb bag of ice and drop it into the freezer. The bag easily lasts 2 or 3 weekends.

The freezer was $500 CAN. It is dead silent and runs approximately 15% of the time.

It fits perfectly in the storage locker under the jump seat. I added a 12V socket to the locker by accessing it from the small pump room at the foot of the cave bed.

Here's how it looks in the locker:

Hey Strat,

I want to buy one of these - can you tell me where you purchased it? Perhaps I'm blind, but I cannot see on the link how to find a local dealer.

Lyndon, I bought it at Nikka Marine . They ship all over Canada if you can't find anyone closer.
