Finally stopped raining enough that I could start to get some work done on those projects that I've been planning on doing for the last few years . . . . I've always wanted to be able to use that enormous amount of wasted space beneath the helm seat (and the Admiral's seat too but that'll have to wait a while) so I measured and ordered an access locker front from Boat Outfitters, got the big one too . . . 17.5" X 24" . . . pictures to follow:

This is what the original looks like . . (agreed, this is port . . I redid the starboard locker first - same one I added the batt charger, 120VAC receptacle and the live DC panel in . . . earlier project completed)

Removed the old door and frame . . sized her up and measured . . taped it off and cut

Yeah, it sounds WAY too easy . . . it wasn't . . . lots of trimming and re-trimming to make her fit just right

Well, she's done and it works just fine . . . have all the access in the world now . . . need to add a shelf to hold the goodies and that should do it.

Looks nice. On the pax side is where I keep my lines. On my '96 2452, I cut to fit a broken bread tray (with many built in design holes in it) and use that to place my lines so they air dry. So if you are thinking of a shelf, this is an easy fix and takes care of the wet stuff... I got my bread tray from the back of a local grocery store... They had a few.

In fact they also had a couple of qt soda trays that I cut in half and use to store my downriger balls in...

I love it. Did you do the Admirals side as well? Got any pics of that?

Nope, haven't done that side yet . . . trying to finish up the front hatch which I replaced as well and it isn't fitting as easily as I had hoped . . . not enough time or boat bucks for her side yet . . . and yes, she's whining! :S

I love it!! Just what I need for the port side. Do you happen to have the brand and model number of the access locker (hatch) that you ordered from Boat Outfitters?

Here's the link that I used: www.boatoutfitters.com/build-your-own-cu...-starboard-boat-door

I spec'd a 17.5" wide X 24" tall unit, hinged on the left (even though the original was hinged on the right . . . . remember, this is the starboard locker door . . . I liked this way better) . . . not all that cheap but, believe me, I've checked all over and they just don't make one that matches those measurements or close to it . . . . so I bit the bullet and ordered one. Love it, wouldn't change a thing.
