The ongoing project of renovating our 2000 2859 brought us to the point of asking: Do we want to replace the worn out factory carpeting with new carpet or install wood flooring. We had been talking about wood inside the cabin for a long time so it was an easy choice.
We tore out the old carpeting picked out an engineered wood called "Gun Oak". First we laid a pad with the moisture barier up.
The interlocking 2" planks glued together rather easy, however if you are going to tackle this project, be aware that there are NO SQUARE corners in this boat. Evidently Bayliner doesnt know what a square is! We took a line via a laser beam down the center of the floor and then worked that line to Port and Starboard. There were many angles and cut outs on the galley side. It helped us to take off the carpet molding at the head entrance and work the planks under it. We added a removable garbage container under the step-down into the cabin and turned the plank run to go port to starboard in the Master Stateroom which added some dimension to that rather small space. We left about 1/8" tolerance where the carpet joins the wood and that seem to have worked out well for expansion since this is a floating type installation. The 1/8" space is not noticable since the carpet pile covers it nicely.
The flooring has been in the boat for about 6 months now and it continues to make the Admiral happy which makes me happy also. It seems to be wearing well and we havent noticed any negative effects from the high moisture content of being on the water 24/7. The key to this project was patience in cutting around objects and dealing with no square corners. Measure twice, cut once would be a conservative approach, but measuring 2 and 3 times saved me from dozens of potential disasters. I'm not a carpenter, but the project turned out good enough for the Admiral to give me "rewards".

The warmth and style it adds to the cabin is amazing plus its easier than the carpet to keep looking nice.

Looks great. We did similar on our 2859. Really opened things up visually and made cleanups much easier.

Looks great!
What kind of glue did you use to glue it to the access hatch?
My carpet has been peeled out and I cut a much bigger access hole. Haven't made a new hatch yet or decided what type of flooring to use.

Looks good. I pulled the carpet out of my boat also, best thing I ever did. This cleans up so easy and no big deal if something gets spilled, just mop it up.

That looks great! I'd second the advice of measure multiple times! Not particularly hard project, just very tedious and time-consuming...
LOL In the middle of replacing all flooring with fake wood, except staterooms (new carpet - in the future!!!)

Added a pic of my galley flooring - not quite finished (NO, I'm not keeping the white duct tape hatch lift handle - LOL)...

Awesome!! Love it!! I would like to know about the material you used. Have been looking at this or a similar product. Curious if what you used is something I haven't researched yet. Thanks in advance for any info!

I used an exterior construction glue which I picked up at Home Depot. Good luck with your project.

Sorry for the late response; I had to fly out to Seattle for my inlaws funeral. To answer the question of What Type of flooring I used: I picked the flooring up at Lumber Liquidators in Ocala, Fl. Its what they call an "Engineered Wood". The one I used was called "Gun Oak". The flooring came with a wood glue used to bond the planks together. They had many to choose from. The pictures that I posted looked a lot more like red however the actual color is more like teak.
