Hi boaters,
Installing a gas strut on the BR175 is nothing new in fact the new boats in the showroom have them but they are installed the long way.
I wanted to install this strut to open away from the driver so that it could be done easily with one hand. Also on my boat a 2008 Br175 the locker will not open the long way as it hits the two seats on either side. I have taken the boat out several times now and the door project is one of the most useful 15 mods I have done to date.

One side question - how did you secure the cargo nets shown in the background?

All I can say is Rustoleum Epoxyshield is your friend and mine in this case. And don't spare the gloss clear coat.

Good question. Starting at the front of the boat under the left side tray where the side carpet ends before turning under the bow I pealed back the side carpet all the way to the back seats. I then cut 3/4 inch plywood squares of about 1.25 each for the 4 squares of the EZNETs (I have two of them on that side) so 8 little squares of wood to serve as ahchor points for the nets. These are held in place with white E6000 adhesive secured initially for 24 hours with refrigerator tape. Then the carpet is put back over the side gunnel as before. It stretches to the original position. This carpet is put down with 3M spray adhesive. Another 24 hours later I secure the EZNETS with 1" drywall screws. ( allow 3/8" for the size of the black knob included with each net. The small dot on each wood square serves as a point for the drywall screw and is prepunched so the screw can find its mark.

Very nice job. The mounting of the cargo nets always looks simple, but inevitably seems to involve peeling lots of things back. Will save this project for when I've got time on my hands!

Or do what I did on my 175 and get the velcro ones - they stick like glue and you just need to make sure you put pressure on the carpet when removing or adjusting them as they are very strong and can pull the carpet away.

sorry no photos but I put 4 in and have just ordered another 2.
