Well project number one is now off of this years list. I replaced the short Windline anchor roller with a new roller I designed. It was made using 3/16" #316 stainless. All the cutting was done on a water jet. I designed it to have 3 rollers and exactly fit my new Rocna 15Kg anchor. This should keep the achor very secure and well away from the boat. I also wanted the stainless of the roller to extend toward the windlass to protect the deck from the chain.

The guys at White Water Marine in Port Huron, Michigan made this for me. These are the same guys that made my stern rails and ladder. The work these guys do is top notch.
Project number two for the year is a water filter for the potable water system. I am going to use a home style unit to make getting filters easy. I made a mount to carry the filter unit. I just need to wrap up a few details and this one will also be done.

Pics to follow.

Very cool, Jim... you do nice work and that boat is so much nicer than it could possibly be from the factory. I've seen your other additions!
It's a Jimliner now!

Thank you for your kind words. I take such pleasure in the boat and woking on it. I spend a lot of time trying to do good work and get it right.

A friend and my wife have both used the Jimliner comment from time to time.

I have a proposition for Jim.. Anytime you get an idea and want to try a prototype out, I am offering my boat for the guinea pig. I figure Jim's mistakes are 1000 times better than my perfection!

I too envy your album.

JimMc,

Very nice setup. Do you have any experience with the Rocna 15 kg anchor, especially compared to the Bruce 15 kg? The claims for the Rocna anchor are pretty impressive as is the price.

Thanks.

I have no experience with the Bruce anchor. We moved up from a 22 pound Delta.

I have not yet had a chance to try the Rocna.

I forgot to mention.

Both Rocna and West Marine have on line testing results from their own tests. Obviously the Rocna tests could be skewed. But the West Marine tests showed the Rocna doing well even though they do not sell it.

Jim,
Nice job. I have been looking for a new roller for my 2005 285 since I picked up a stainless 14 lb delta late last year. It doesn't fit well in the original roller designed for a danforth.
What are the dimensions of your roller? I am wondering if my delta would fit in that too. Any new roller I get can't be over 3" in width due to a small indentation that the current one sits in on the bow.
If you don't mind me asking - how much was it?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

We had a 2003 285 and I changed the roller on it as well. So I am familiar with the recess in the deck you mentioned.

This roller assy is almost 3.5" wide. I designed it for use with 3" rollers. There are 3 rollers. This roller was designed by me specifically for the Rocna 15Kg anchor for my boat. It's approx 36" long total. #316 Stainless all 3/16" thick, water jet cut polished stainless.

I paid $450 to have it made.

It took them about three weeks to get it back to me once they had the plans. Getting time on the water jet is what slows them down.

I will take some better pics this weekend.
