I used BlackTip Jetsports traction mat from Amazon. It came as a 38" x 78" mat and I cut it to the size I wanted. It came with a peel and stick backing and seems to be stuck on pretty good, time will tell.

With it being so close to the water surface does it drag at all when getting up onto plane?

looks good. I would swap out the metal for aluminum or stainless. When that metals starts to rust you may be dealing with some very hard to remove rust stains from your boat.
