After a few tense moments loading with the fork lift and a 250 mile 9 hour trip the boat arrives at its new home. The next day I proceeded to remove things from the boat. I wish had pictures of what I removed. It was enough to fill the entire back of a pickup truck. It all went to the dump

:pop Very interested to watch this move along. I have a 1979 3250 and love it. Mine is still in usable shape, but definitely could use cosmetics at this point. Time and money are short so I just use it....lol. Good luck.

I got busy so I couldn't post on this for a couple of days.

Let me give you some history and an explanation of the thread title.

The Bayliner Conquest 3250 was manufactured between 1978 and 1986.
There are several versions a sun bridge model (the most popular) a ocean express, sport fly bridge model and a fly bridge model.

Most conquests are out drive versions. The ocean express version is a onboard model non sun bridge style. It is usually recognizable only 2 hull windows per side.

The power plants in the Conquest varies from twin 350,s twin 454's or twin diesels.

My conquest is a ocean express. That is the style I looked for although the make a O/ E in sun bridge style its a v-drive and there is zero space to work on any thing and very little storage.

My conquest has a cockpit 12x10 feet its huge and the bilge storage area is 8x10 feet. .

In the title say remaking of a 3250. The reason is this is not a restoration its not a refitting its not a repair.

In the following parts of this thread you will see that I am changing many things I would like different in the boat. For one expamle this boat never came with an anchor locker well it does now. :). When I am finished it won't resemble a Conquest inside or out.

I say my boat is my pallets. I say that because my artistic expertise is in forming shaping and building things the way see them or can Invision them. That is what I am doing with the conquest.

OK moving on.

After getting the boat home I had to get the boat off the trailer. I knew I was going to have to get it on and off more than once. Although the darn thing(the lift) is always in the way now I am glad I built it. I have had the boat in and off its Trailer many times and will have to put it again in a few months.I had some steel laying around from an old stair way so I built a lift for the boat. I can take the boat off the trailer in about a 1/2 hour it takes about 1 hour to put it back on. Here is a picture of when I was up righting the lift and installing the the trolley and hoist.

At this point the boat home the lift built and the boat off the trailer I began to tear the boat down here are some pictures of the condition of the boat as you will be able to see why this boat needed a restoration. This first picture is the real reason the boat sank. When the boat came untied at the aft it swung around and the propeller was hitting on the lake floor and because the stringer was rotten the engine mount bolt pulled out of the stringer and pulled the rubber hose off the shaft log letting water in.

You can see in the next picture the bolt that pulled out of the stringer.

When the boat went down and filled with water the entire starboard side in the cabin and engine room was covered by sand and dirt. I don't have a good picture of that but here is a small sample of how that was. Also most of every thing that got wet inside was covered in oil that floated out of the engines.

The following pictures will outline the general condition of the engine compartment and the bilge. The wiring in this boat was an absolute mess. Looks like a first grader wired it. The generator is a 3.5 kw Kohler that has zero compression. I'm not sure how it ever ran.

Pulling the engines......... the port engine was fine I don't think it was ever under water. The engines had about 650- 700 hours on them I gave the port engine toa friend and he put in his sea ray and it is still running to this day. Now the starboard engine wasn't so lucky. The port engine

What a mess!!! That project is waaaaay over my skill level. But as bad as the boat looks now, I'm sure it will be equally as fantastic when you are finished. I am looking forward to watching your progress. :hand10

I wish my skill level was my biggest worry. Really if someone was to take on a project like that their skill level would grow exponentially. Although my skill level is high in the boat rebuilding regard I have still learned a ton of skills and abilities.

The biggest issues I have come across isn't skill .... but anxiety and endurance and emotional strength to continue and to drag those around me along the journey.

Recently (last couple of years) time has been the biggest road block.

There have been times I just want to drag it to the dump.

The rotten part of the boat. Interestingly enough the floor had previously rotted and the previous owner just covered it with another sheet of plywood not repairing the rot. Making it worse than if he had done nothing. The dry rot spread throughout all the structural wood in the hull necestating a complete structural reconstruction. The bulk head between the engine compartment and the cabin.

Now we are getting somewhere. Here are some views of the hull from fore and aft.Note how rotten the bulkhead was and the black stringers. They were so soft I could dig the wood out with my fingers. Now we are talking we are getting into some serious carnage now.

Here is a pile of the electrical wire I removed from the boat this is only half the wire removed..

This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.

Also before removing the boat from the trailer I had to build some boat stands. The boat is back on the trailer for now and I only use the transom stands now to secure the back of the boat to keep it level.

Because of the extent of the rot and the condition of the fiberglass surrounding the stringers I had to make some decisions. There are several ways to replace a stringer but in this case I chose to completely remove the stinger and all is surrounding glass. The reason being the quality of the glass/stringer was inicially poor from the factory and additionally the glass was oil soaked and all that had to be removed to be able to apply new glass over the top of the new stringer and hull area.As you can see I removed all the stringer and its surrounding fiberglass and extensively ground on the hull for adhesion with 16 grit grinding disc in preparation of the new stringer using wests systems epoxy. .

The new stringer was fitted and preped for glassing in. Now you can see the stringer to the most left (port) side was already installed with its fuel tank bunk. I don't think I have pictures of that installation.
