Richard,

I loved your description and pictures on your water tank replacement. I am surprised it did not take you longer. I want to install a monitor on my fresh water tank in my 38. I am going to use a SensaTank monitor that mounts on the side of the tank. My question is how do I expose the side of the tank to install the monitor, without removing all of the flooring. I started to remove the raised floor next to the galley, but I quit when it started to look like a huge job. Any suggestions?

Bob,

As you saw the removal of the tank required major destruction. My boat is 1988 38xx and the tank was aluminum, I assume you have an aluminum tank also? There is a hatch in the midship stateroom floor near the bulkhead. It allows access to the tank where the guage is located although it is quite small. I am not familiar with a sensa guage. Does it come with a verticle configuration? I don't know if there is enough room between the tank and bulkhead to place a horizontal guage. You might consider another guage, Wema makes one that others have used with success. If you try to remove flooring be aware that there are two layers of floor and you will have to tear all of that out probably destroying it. Reply back if you have questions.

Hope this helps

Richard

Richard or anyone else that have replaced the water tank I have a question. Why didn't you use 2 tanks that were as long and high as the original but half as wide or close? After getting the floor, stairs, wall and old tank out could a tank half as wide be dropped into place pushed towards the berth and then another dropped in beside it? I'am getting ready to start on mine and just wanting more info before I go ahead and order the tanks.

I need to replace my water tank in my 1987 Bayliner "3870". I have read the excellent info that Richard Tulip submitted, but I have a few questions. Could you install 2 tanks side by side, put 1 in & slid it over & install the second ? This would be like the original tank , but made in 2 pieces. What were the dimensions of the 2 tanks you installed ?

Langenbach,

I don't see any reason you couldn't do two tanks side by side. Tying down the outboard tank might be a problem I'd look at this first. I don't remember the dimensions of my tanks but check out the web site in my first post for the manufacturer the dimensions will be on the site for the models. I searched several web sites for tanks/gallons/dimensions and the ones I used worked the best. There are probably other manufacturers that I didn't find. If using side by side I would connect them at the aft end venting both.

Purrfecto,

Do you have pics of your project? Just when I think I have a handle on the OP's project, your descriptions seems a bit easier minus wall and floor removal.

Thanks!

Purrfecto,

I'd be interested how you got the original tank out. Any pics and description?

Greg,

Instead of mailing me pictures could you load them in this thread to show everybody how you did it? It would be a good addition to the thread.
