I bought this 1985 5.0 ltr Capri Cuddy cabin two weeks ago. Two trips to the power washer and 4 hours with 3m heavy oxidized boat wax it looks like this.
My son complained bitterly but he did most of the blue paint. He got tired and the port side needs more work but after he started he really tried so I didn't have the heart to make him redo it.

Send him over. I've got a 2750 for him to "practice" on.

Looking good...
You can use a faster cutting 'hand' rubbing compound to save some work. Use a buffer (carefully), and then go back to the 3M wax for the final polish.

I did my '87 a couple of years ago, and there's still blue gel coat dust on my shop floor:D

I just did mine, but I wet sanded with 1500 grit then maachine polished with 3M medium compound on my '86 2550, really did a great job at bringin back some shine... Be careful with a machine buffer wehn removing the wax, if it gets too hot it will leave a hard glaze that's a real PIA to get off.....

Yes it does but they're so fine the buffing compound takes it right out, leaves a beautiful shine. It's not something you'd to do very often, I only did mine because the PO wasn't very good on hull maintenance, had a lot of oxidization. The 1500 is so fine you'd have to do a lot of sanding before going through the gelcoat, from what I understand it's pretty thick. It's not easy to get right though, you have to be very even handed or some parts come out better than others lol! Had to do mine twice before I was satisfied and I'm still not done....

Cool, I think you're only the second local guy I've seen here, you'd figure there'd be a lot more of us considering where we are....

Hey there,

I keep her there. She use to be at Leeward, but Smithfield Station is closer to home. I do have a trailer so I can pull her for cleanings and service.
