I noticed last season my pulpit was not in the best of shape, but stringers and transom prevaled.
I decided to tackle the pulpit while the sun was still shining and I could make a new one over the winter months

Notice the seperation of the fiberglass, I knew she would be damp,

Once the five 1/4 - 20 bolts and the bow rail bolts were removed she came right off and boy was she heavy (about 70 lbs)

Some of the gel was stuck to the boat so I used a scraper to remove the gel an the silicone

I removed the lower shell and as expected the wood was soaked and rotting.
Im going to use this as a pattern to build a new one out of teak.

Stay tuned

Are you going to make the whole thing out of Teak? That'd look great with the classic lines of your boat! Or are you going to replace the rotted wood, and reglass? You might not want to use teak for that... kind'a a waste to bury it in resin. Keep the old one for Ebay.. maybe even rework it before you sell it. That'll probably cover the cost of your new pulpit's wood!

If anyone is interested there is a Marine Surplus store in Florida that usually has identical pulpits that Bayliner uses on many of their boats for about $160.
No hardware/roller.
Anyone has an interest PM me and i'll find a link.

Doug,

I'd appreciate it if you could find the link for me - I rebuilt mine a couple of years ago and although it is solid, I do not like the way the glass on the top looks.

On a second note, Mike, I'd be intersted in paying you to build one for me out of teak.

its a mom and pop store near us in Florida.
They only have one pulpit and things like that won't be on their web. Email or call them.
It is the same pulpit that is on my 28 and 38.
Capt Wally bought one a couple years ago.
They may not have one but they usually do.

Before Christmas Eve I picked up the Banac (teak like) lumber from our local specialty lumber yard and I left it in my shop to climatize.
I cross cut the length to 48" . My wholesale price so far on lumber is $80.00

This image is hidden for guests.

I then ripped the lumber on the tablesaw to 2 5/8 " thick

I then layed out my lumber so the cups and bows would work against each other and I mixed up some West system epoxy and began laminating it together. I used my clamps and I will leave it overnight. Rough shaping starts tommorow.

Mike,

I'll drop by when you are done, I have been thinking of a nice tak pulpit since I rebuilt my fiberglass one a couple of years ago. There is a 32' Thundercraft in the slip beside me in Starport with a teak pulpit and swim platform. I think that boat is an '87 and it looks great on it.....

I'll bring cash!

Lyndon,

You get to the back of the line buddy ! I still haven't seen my blender yet, considering what I paid for it, I have a right to B-**tch...LOL

Mike, I want to place an order also. Mine was used as a dock stop earlier in the year, when I was having stalling issues, damn brakes on the boat don't seem to work also !

Keep the pics coming !!

Happy New Year to all !

Well now that some of the people from Ontario are on this thread I would like to ask do you have a day that you will be at the Toronto Boat show. I will be there on Wednesday January 16 I will get there about 12:30 or 1:00 park under ground and take in the boat show. The wife will be with me this year.

I'll bet the pulpit is looking great, how about a few pictures.

Mikey ! Now you're talking !!!

I have been to 2 boat shows, 1 in TO and 1 in Detroit. I have to stop going....I buy stuff and drool all over the big, out of my reach yachts. I have to bring a towel as I step on those things, my imagination runs wild with Lotto 6/49 commercials. The I go home and think how bad I have it....After I give my head a shake, I come back to reality and realize how good I have it and that I don't want to go to another boat show...

In all honestly, my 1988 29.5 foot Avanti, seems to have a much better cabin layout than ANY other 30 foot boat, ya, they're pretty and shiney, but mines paid for !!

The beer is in the fridge Mikey !

Rick - We took a vote - sorry, but no. ;)

As for boat show visits I'll get to 2 this year. Toronto of course but we're also splurging and going to the Miami show in Feb for 4 days. I've never been to that show and I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

I can't get out of class till 11:30 and by the time I drive across town and park I am a 1/2 hour late.

Oh so if they are late I might be able to get a pulpit, that would be great, I think the foot print on the bow is the same as my 2755.

Well boys, I have to admit I will not be attending for the first time in a few years. Regretably, I will be in Montego Bay, Jamaica from the 12th of Jan until the 19 of Jan.

Don't think for one minute Ken that this means you can have my pulpit in my absence!
