The same thing happened to me a few days ago. My access to the site was denied. I was changing my new assigned password to my old one, maybe keyed it in wrong and after a couple of tries received the same message as you. I sent a message to the same e-mail as you did and a day or so later was able to access the site again. I never did receive an answer to the e-mail, so I am still not sure how access was restored.

Pat.

There is a bit of experimentation going on with trying to keep spammers out - things like IP bans, too many failed login attempts, etc...
Please bear with us as we try to figure out the best methods to use with this new forum software.

Thanks.

This is for everyone out there:
I just changed the log in info to ban for 30 mins if someone tries to log on unsuccessfully 5 times in 5 mins. If that happens then the ban will last 30 mins... (as Mike suggests) If you forget your PW, PLEASE click on "forgot Password" then input your email that is in your profile. If you use another one, you will be banned. Think about this, if a hacker got your user name and just had a new PW sent to whatever email he put in... nuf said...

We'll see how this new change works for a while...

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but I'll let you know the next step.

People will log into the site, claiming to own boats, maybe even post some generic question, and then there will be posts all over the place from Nike in German and French. Don't say you have not been warned. Oh, and the email they sign up with.. Normal stuff. gmail, outlook, comcast, frontier etc.. (by the way blocking gmail is just limiting membership... fwiw.. everyone who owns a google device has gmail account and for many it's their ONLY account.. I'm just saying.. it's 2013).

On a site I run, after doing all the stuff you've done so far it seems, we had to move to a "welcome center" method. New members can ONLY post in the welcome center and the mods answer their posts as best as possible. It's pretty easy to spot someone who actually wants to participate and once the mods make this determination, they are granted access. Even this this in place, about twice a week someone will sign up... and either their first post will be a huge Nike ad with links (yes the shoes) or they will ask something like "where can I buy. xxxx guitar" No details... just a short sentence. The mod will respond knowing what comes next.... yep... Nike ad...

Anyway... I'm offering this up as a warning. There are groups in the Ukraine and in China (the major ones) that hire kids.. well "offer kids" Hey if you put this text on xx number of forums... you get a new Video game or whatever. They employ 1000's !!!! of kids doing this. Electronic filters and such only go so far..

The good news... It's a sign of success..

On the old site we actually asked power boating related questions to see if they had any reasonable chance to actually want to post here. It worked pretty darn good, a lot of the kids could not get past them.

Stuff like: What do you call the back end of a boat ?

Just got back on. It looks like Doug helped.

I can log in but get logged out as soon as I leave.!!
I have to log in every time I open the site.
I started a different thread before I discovered this one.
If I got 1 can of spam for every log out I could eat all winter.

Just like anything new, there is a learning curve. People are impatient .

It takes as long as it takes.

The bosses are working their collective behinds off i'm sure.

I'm grateful were back up and running.

Just think your waiting for your wives to get ready, got the idea. Or;

They say it will only take 10 minutes when they go into a cloths store they made you stop at on the way out to dinner.

I got really pissed when I could not log in, the security was set up for those that do not make mistakes when logging in, the timming has been changed, I keped trying to log in inside of the new-then time limit.
I like a lot of others are not great typest, due to the 7 soon to be 8 surgeries on my hands I use 2 fingers.
The time limit to log in is reduced, we did not know of the time limit of the block outs, mine was my IP address was blocked, so I used my I phone to creat a new account, that got some attention, after an email or 2 Doug fixed it, and my 1 account as boatworkfl2 is removed.

Thanks much, Doug

I keep getting the message sporadically. I change my password to overcome the issue. I am wondering if my very locked down Firefox is causing the issue. I also get problems using online banking as well. I have to lower the protection level, do the banking thing, and then run malwarebytes to remove a shed load of malware that gets through in the 5 minutes it takes to move a few pounds around.

My internet browser uses an anti-virus add-in called Ghostery to prevent trackers being injected and something else called "NoScript" to prevent illicit Java scripts running.

I have visibility of things like "themes.GoogleUserContent.com" trying to run from BOC webpages. So, even this website is trying to run stuff that my anti-invasion software is constantly blocking.

It is getting weird. I just got the dreaded message and can log in from my laptop but not my desktop. The site must be locking my IP address out. I don't know what is causing it to think I am spamming. I am only doing "normal" forum actions that I have done in the past.
