So there is an implied trust that reputation anonymity will be maintained, so why not just flip the switch so that only reputation provided by Administrators and Moderators will be revealed, so that may be used as an example for the masses as to proper usage of that system?

boatworkfl;671956 wrote: I am thinking what your thinking. I think it is being mis-used.

The reputation is a valuable tool for the Mods and Admins to maintain decorum and civility. The AR forum is now superior to the BR forum (After Reputation / Before Reputation).

The only element missing is the example on proper usage.

Please warm-up the Klieg light to show us the way...

Looks like there are some that will give me a neg every post on this thread, wonder why they hide?
Down to 37 I have not given any negs.

Just imagine how much better the system would be if anyone could hover over the Rep Star and see all the comments / ratings / authors for each of the Rep points awarded.

The utility of that feature would be outstanding!

Quite simple, really. It's because EVERYONE ELSE has moved on.

I know this sounds repetitive because we have stated this numerous times.... but some of you need to hear this again...

we are working on the rep thing

But don't count on it anytime really soon... Some of us have lives outside of BOC... yes we do...

You can have the rest of the 37 that is my point.

Rep points should be given for help issues, not jokes, not comments on this thread, what does this thread have to do with the quality of the posts in the I need help, or I have an issue with my engine, ect Correct me if I am wrong, but was this not the initial explanation for rep points so that others may know that you know what your advising?
I am done on this thread.

+1

This forum really sucked BR when the only way to disagree was to post in-public a dissenting viewpoint and point to appropriate references to substantiate that point.

Now that we're AR the anonymous hit-and-run direct personal attacks are easy for the keyboard cowards.

What is next on the horizon?

While I dont agree with those that think that the reputation component is a big deal that it needs to be removed or modified, that fact that two moderators and the Administrator conduct themselves in the manner that they have in this thread is a little concerning and IMHO shows a lack of respect for the membership in general. Perhaps the Rep system is just a symptom of a larger problem whether real or percieved by a lot of members.

Dave, seriously, I swear that boatworkfl's last 30 posts have been whining about the April Fool's joke. Everybody has their frustration limit, even mods!

He says he's done in this thread...hopefully that means he's done with complaining about the joke and gets back to being a normal BOC contributor!

Strat I understand the frustration limits of the mods. I am just noting that the calling out of, or minimizing a members concerns in full public view which has happened not only in this thread but in other theads and with other members, some in fact long time members, may not be percieved as very professional. Perhaps it could be better handled though the use of PM's or by just ignoring the post. If a guest at your hotel complains about service do you call them out loudly as whiners in the lobby of your hotel. Just my humble opinion. As for the topic(s) of the post, April first is long gone and the rep system does not matter one way or the other in the big scheme of things.
:worth
Boatworkfl f it was me, I would just move on by trying to assist other members in some other posts and get ready for splash day . Again just my opinion :D

I am done with the joke, it slid sidways becauss of the reps, so it first the reps, then the joke, then the reps, I think some missed the last transition.
I am done with both, the mods admit there is work to be done on the rep thing, thank god, they may now work on something usefull if put together correctly.
I whas not whining, just doing what it took to make a point, every time I got slamed with a neg and no reason given, I got a little hotter, jump up and say why you give a neg or pos on rep! I can imagine what this would look like on PP: A fire storm.
At least they say they will work on it.
I am done with both.

Really, Dave? Lack of respect? It's said the squeaky wheel gets the grease- there are a couple of guys that are demanding an apology, while the vast majority of the membership either took the April Fools gag as the joke it was, or simply shook it off and have moved on. I believe that there would be a larger problem if every time somebody disagreed with something, the admins and mods shifted in the way the vocal minority demanded. Chaos would ensue in short order.

You run your own sites- do you run everything as a democracy?
