I think the PP forum has run its course and is of no real value to our members. But before I decide to shut it down, I'd like your opinions here in this thread only.

So... let the games begin...

This otta be good :pop

Just my opinion but the PP forum seems to serve a significant number of your members especially some long time members. While it can be a rough forum to enter especially as a Canadian whose opinions are tollerated at best I think it still serves a purpose and outlet for your members here. Americans are very political active and passionate. I think the separation from the Dock walk keeps that roughness out of the remainder of the site. The only thing I think happens way to frequently is the interference from moderators. If you go in the PP forum you should go in wearing your big boy pants and be prepared to give as good as you get. I dont see the elimination of the PP forum in any way enhancing BOC but may alienate some of your long time members and supporters.

Doug,
Keep the Dock Walk & PP as is. I like visiting DW and as stated it has a completely different overtones versus PP. I do step into the PP occationaly for some entertainement. You know us Canadians don't know anything about American Politics! :)

When the political discussions were moved into its own forum from Dockwalk it made BOC a better place.

So now we are going to fix something else that is not broken.

You hold the power to do as you please but as for me leave PP alone.

I don’t participate in the PP so leaving it the way it is or removing it from the forum would not have any impact on my use of the BOC one way or the other. I come here to talk boats not politics.

However, it seems to me to be a question of whether or not there are enough members who are participating in the PP in an appropriate manner to warrant its continuation.

I like the fact that politics are kept out of the Dock Walk as the subject is often polarizing, divisive, and leads to members behaving badly. When political discussion was allowed in the Dock Walk there was a lot of political mud-slinging, personal attacks and conflicts in the Dock Walk. For me this created an unpleasant atmosphere. When the move was made to create the PP forum the conflicts on the Dock Walk decreased dramatically. The creation of PP forum was a good move for that reason.

So whether the PP forum stays or goes makes not a bit of difference to me. But please don’t combine it with the Dock Walk.

Ryan - I'm curious as to why you have been receiving e-mails asking for PP to be shut down? I know it's impossible to share all the e-mails but could you perhaps summarize the gist of the reasons? Personally I don't get it, I mean if I don't like a TV show that's on a major network, I don't watch it. If I don't like a particular author or magazine, I don't read it. If I don't like a particular bar, restaurant, or store, I don't go there. So why would someone that doesn't like something go there to be riled up and request shutdown? Is it the old train wreck or freeway accident conundrum where you know you won't like the blood and guts but you have to look?? Curious minds want to know.

Discussion is so one sided and intolerant of opposing view is why it has run its course and when the site Admin posts a manifesto that is nowhere impartial it is going to kill the discussion because if you want to keep your privleges it is best to not p!$$ off the admin. If you aren't right of Atilla the Hun then you are some sort of pinko-commie-fa*.

I say kill it off with one stipulation - political threads need to be removed immediately, if PP is removed then there is no place for those topics here.

Yeah, I never go into PP, but it seems to have made the Dock Walk a friendlier place.

Let those who wish to continue to duke it out do so in PP, just my two cents...

In don't really have a dog in this fight as I have visited PP only once in my entire time here on BOC. So I don't care if you shut it down or keep it as as. What I don't want is the dock walk becoming political. That would suck. I don't need to, or want to read people's political opinions in dock walk. I'd go visit my father if I wanted a lecture on politics. :)

Is it possible to block entrance to PP so only the most conservative can get in?

If 150 people have something to say why don't they start a thread instead of this behind the scene BS.

For those that remember this site prior to PP, I feel that it is much better since PP has been added. Prior to PP a thread would start on how to repair gelcoat and end up on capital punishment or foreign policy. I say keep it to help the rest of the forum remain boating related.

I have never bothered to get a password because I thought it was a rather dumb idea to begin with. Putting a bunch of adults in a place to argue politics and whatever they feel like with no limits is not a boating site thing. They do have special sites for this. I don't see it so you can do as you please. :arr

At one time I would have voted to keep it- not now. Kill it, and let's stick to boating. Less bandwidth wasted.

+1. I agree with everything stated. If I was interested in a political discussion I would go on a political board. I come here for information and discussion on boating topics. The internet is a big place. Lots of options to pursue other interests, like politics, so I don't need it here. Never been in PP and no plans to check it out.

Besides there is enough drama in the other forums to keep it interesting. I am just about to post pictures of my hydrogen powered grill ignitor system that I have installed in my engine compartment using the fuel tank vent to pass through the hull up to the grill mounted next to my gas generator that I keep inside the cabin with all the windows closed.

I say keep it. Some of us like the banter. The site has been for the most part respectable. The dock wall will be the new PP and you all know that. People who do PP as well as other topics will be banned and you will have lost knowledge and a lot of good fun people.

Those that want it banned; block them from entering. It is like the nosy neighbors sticking their nose over the fence and calling the cops at 1 min. past 10 because they are having fun or they don't like it when someone challenges them on their opinion. Don't like it, stay out. That's what I do with the cooking forum. Email wanting it closed? Block them out.

The administration will do what they like which is fine.

I say keep it and it's good that the caustic conversations in PP are behind a wall & kept out of the nice people's area! (kidding, somewhat! :))
Dock Walk would suffer if it is stricken from the site.......

When I made the new site, I created PP to get the political crap out of Dock Walk...but I created a monster. Some days there are more posts on PP than anywhere else, which is silly. This is, first and foremost, a boating site. I vote to gas it. But, if the vote is to keep or combine it, I will go along with what the majority decides, shrug, and accept it!

I agree Mike!

I remember when you came up with the idea for the "Dock Walk" forum as a way to move the non boating discussions and fights to the sidelines.

In hindsight both the dock walk and the PP forums have proven themselves to take away from an otherwise fine boating site.

I say to AX them both! The BOC will be better off without them!

Since I have a vested interest in this decision, I have tried to keep quiet about this poll. However, if you move forward with merging or outright removal of PP, there will be a huge impact on those that don't want to hear about PP, much less see the conversations. I say let it stay as is.
