You're what? Seriously? C'mon Ryan. We don't need all of that boat stuff messing up this forum now! How are you ever going to earn any rep points if you are off working on some silly boat:arr

I popped into the forum the other day and saw the green thingy in the corner. I though to myself" Hmm - they added the reputation thing like that did on another forum I play on - cool".

And then I moved on... I had to buy new impellers - that seemed a might bit more important. And know what? I bought new impellers - and based my vendor choice on the responses to my question. But when I did that, I forgot to look at the green thingy's on everyone's post. Oops. but I did add one or two as "y'all" helped me out a bunch. Giving "rep" for such a thing is a pretty easy way to say "thanks" - or "you input was appreciated" - or "right on" or...you get the idea.

crowder.dr;667320 wrote: Okay so maybe an explanation of how this works will assist.Reputation Points and Reputation Power are different things.ReputationPoints can be seen in your User Control Panel.Reputation Power can be seen beside each post, under your details.Reputation Points is the amount of Reputation you have been given by other members. To begin with, every +100 gives you an extra box.

Then it becomes every +200 and so on as you get higher up the ranks. (Dependant on what setting were made by the Admin)Reputation Power is the amount of Reputation you give to someone each time you Rep them. This goes up, for instance, every time you reach +1000 posts as well as with each green box addition. This explains why Bounty has a mega high Reputation Power (He has posted a heck loads) but may not have a mega high amount of Reputation Points in comparison to Sarah (Sarah having been Rep'd more by other members). Also, you can rep someone for any reason but it's usually just an indication that you like the content of their post; whether it made you laugh, whether their piece was well-written or you just generally agree with the point they made. You cannot see rep's that you've given out, and you cannot rep the same post twice. You can see the last 5 rep's that you have been given on your User CP.I hope this is now clear a MUD and helps :D

Any forum rating system that requires that much explanation is seriously messed up.

Well, I guess that I could give you a bump - but what's in it for me? :D

I say that we devise some sort of pyramid scheme with these rep points. You know, recruit some newbies,,,,,some real, some not, bring 'em along, slowly,,,,,,all the while they're feeding us rep points baby! Our power grows and grows! Yea yea, that's where it's at! A rep point pyramid scheme,,,,,kinda like Amway,,,,,,yea! :D

Massage the system and make it work for you,,,,,,,yea, that's the ticket :)

So Ryan, now that it's working properly, is it safe to assume that when a member turns off their reputation in the settings, that it only shades out the green thingies? Is there anyway to hide the rep power?

I am still looking into the rep power thing, I will need to make a post on vbulletin to find out what the developers reasoning behind that is.

5 small words all in one sentence. " Thank you for a job well done ! " Those words should be directed to the admin. of this site, from every member of this forum.

As a matter of fact i'm going to start a thread and post those words lets see if every member posts to it.

They should because these guys give countless hours, sweat, and thought in making this one great site, maybe the best on the web.

Believe me i post to other marine sites this one is the best.
