I saw Ryan Sat. I just try to get the boat ready. He is building additions, 3rd story, new lighting. I can't even figure out how to get the DC power working on mine. Oh to be young.

Okay so maybe an explanation of how this works will assist.Reputation Points and Reputation Power are different things.ReputationPoints can be seen in your User Control Panel.Reputation Power can be seen beside each post, under your details.Reputation Points is the amount of Reputation you have been given by other members. To begin with, every +100 gives you an extra box.

This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.

Then it becomes every +200 and so on as you get higher up the ranks. (Dependant on what setting were made by the Admin)
Reputation Power is the amount of Reputation you give to someone each time you Rep them. This goes up, for instance, every time you reach +1000 posts as well as with each green box addition. This explains why Bounty has a mega high Reputation Power (He has posted a heck loads) but may not have a mega high amount of Reputation Points in comparison to Sarah (Sarah having been Rep'd more by other members). Also, you can rep someone for any reason but it's usually just an indication that you like the content of their post; whether it made you laugh, whether their piece was well-written or you just generally agree with the point they made. You cannot see rep's that you've given out, and you cannot rep the same post twice. You can see the last 5 rep's that you have been given on your User CP.I hope this is now clear a MUD and helps :D

It is clear as mud! Why cannot I have 2 clear or green thingies?
What you explained is exactly why we do not need it! The rating system has no clear meaning! It is confusing!
I am for Sarah, she is a normal boater and one of 2 members having green thingies that I know of.
The powers to be have not even tried to explain what their V system is all about; except, if you have a high number, you are better than the rest of us, I better not say the rest.

It has nothing to do with better than anyone It has to do with "you can rep someone for any reason but it's usually just an indication that you like the content of their post; whether it made you laugh, whether their piece was well-written or you just generally agree with the point they made. "

By the way here are your two clear thingies :D Just forward them to a Mod and they will put them up for you

So you are saying the mod can do about anything including giving me 2 green thingies, must mean they are just conversation thingies, I only need one thingie, I would rather be like most of us, with 1 exception so far when it comes with the green thingies.

You said it: Just an indication that they like the content, GEE, the reasons are starting to change for the reason of the rating system.

I wonder if all the members are informed of the different reasons they can give for like or dislike of any help we have to give.
I wonder why some have one number posted, and the number on their settings is different?

I hope we did not have to pay for the thingie software, if we did, we got took.

LazyCrusr;667066 wrote: I sort of compare my conversations here at BOC to conversations around a campfire: relaxed, pleasant, and often informative too. But when I am chatting around a campfire and someone says something, the rest of us don't rate what was said for appropriate merit! And then hang praise for a good statement or a de-merit if something said is not agreeable, or is inaccurate to us.

Nobody in a friendly society does this stuff - It would be far too RUDE and nobody would like it nor would they want to participate in that campfire chat! "Sorry Sally, your Rep points are kinda slim so I don't even want to listen to you!"

It's just a ridiculous 'feature' with dubious benefit.

Sorry, I am not normally one to publicly complain but the rep thing suks and MUCH worse is the way we're being blown off when voicing displeasure over it.
I do not appreciate the dismissive attitude. :livid: (that is not a smiley, it is the LIVID icon)

It's important to note NOW, before this gets out of hand:

Green "thingies" are female. The male equivalent are green "thangs." (As in Wild Thang...):smilet-digitalpoint

There is a rating system for the green thingies, as you get more green thingies the mesage changes when you put your mouse pointer on it, but, it does appear that is in relation to your posted rating, the chart for it states it does; the chart was posted in the other thread.

When I first saw it I thought 2 green thingies meant female, when a male got 2 green thingies it runied it all.

Bottom line. Does having the rep power rating make BOC a better place, then let it stay. If it causes contention and discord within the ranks then it should be dropped. The mods have a big decision to make. The will of the members should also weigh into the decision.

Well I have done all I can to explain the non-evils of the new system but I will leave this thread with the following observation,

If you will all note that the relationship between your power, your points and the number of people who read and respond to your posts really have not changed since this has been implemented. The sky has not fallen and members have not left in droves and the last time I checked the news no newbies boat sank based on advice he got from BOC relying on the Rep System to point him to an experianced member. :D

I would give it some time and let the bugs work its way out :D

Sarah, I don't doubt you for one minute, and yes, Mike's green thingys are magnificient!
But I am now questioning Mike's Green Thingys even further.
Earlier I mentioned that they were counterfiet, and where you could find them......... but I had no idea that they were green silicone! :prod

Okay... so... the Rep power and the green thingys mean absolutely nothing when you need technical information, and are just a popularity contest. That's good to know, and not at all what was explained in the beginning! :hor-
