So far, Sarah and I are the only BOC members that have a pair of green things. (I wanted to use the adjective "bodacious" to modify "pair," but I thought that might have been misconstrued.) Sarah, I hope you feel special, I know I do. Carry on...

This green thingy has become quite the topic.

I have a few extra Double Greenies! If anyone is interested in them, I'll trade you a few Rep Power points for them. We can meet in the PM booth out back to make the deal.
First come/first serve, so make it quick.

I'd like to add that the double green thingy does imply a certain feminine characteristic, so Jeff, you may want to dump yours ASAP. :D

The green thingie pairs proudly displayed Sarah and Jeff are each smashed tightly together.

The ones you are trading are dangling apart.

Any idea why?

Sorry, I can't trade, I need every single point I can get to avoid going deeply into the negative category, so I'll keep my solo green thingie.

Oh man..... that was funny, and it almost made me snort coffee up my nose. Thank you! :D :D :D

The problem with the ones that I'm offering, is the triple E size. I'll see if I can bring them together.

I did meet Jeff in Portland a few years ago, and he's a rather big guy. If anyone can pull off triple E's, Jeff can!

This image is probably a default Reputation Level setting. Ours may be different as the Admins tweak the system. FYI

When they tweak the system I'd like to request a new level.

Could I please be rated as: an unknown quantity in the rough, or I'm on a shameless road, or future aura?

I gave it a couple of days, and hoped that this mess would be fixed. It is not. I love this site but I will not participate when every post I make rates me. "Someone" has already dropped my rep from 3 to 2. I got a rating that included a negative comment that said "useless". Wonder who did that? This is a non technical post, has absolutely NOTHING to do with boats, nothing to do with information sharing, and yet damaged my Reputation. Just another post to prove that this system DOES NOT WORK.

Yeah, No one with a rep of 2 can be listened to. That will be a disaster. We are complete morons. Even if I am highly educated, make over $125,000.00 per year, and have a lot of experience, my rep score is 2 - DO NOT LISTEN TO ME.

It gets better. Now you are a 0. I tried to give you positive rep and it says I have to spread rep out more before I can give it to you again. I'VE NEVER GIVEN REP TO ANYONE! What a stupid system.

Here is my take on the system for what it's worth. (my opinion that is)

Example:

A new member post his first question in the tech section hoping to gain useless insight to the logic behind, and the adjustment of his OMC Cobra ESA

His first reply comes from a member who has a Rep rating of 2, he takes the time to explain in great, and accurate detail the operational logic and how to properly verify that both switches are functioning properly and that the internal circuits in the ESA module are also working as designed as well as a tried and true method of adjustment.
He also includes in his reply photos and links to web sites where more trusted accurate specs can be found.

The second reply comes from a member with a Rep of 31, all those points were gained by his thousands of posts in the dock walk section for years of jokes, funny pictures and other non tech, and virtually non boating related posts.

His answer to the OP's post is:
Throw the ESA module in the trash and wire it like a Merc.

WHO WOULD HE TRUST AS THE BEST AUTHORITY ON THE SUBJECT IF USING THE REP SYSTEM AS INTENDED ?

(my 2 cents, can't spare any more than that)

It is easy! All you have to do is disagree with the changes, voice an opinion and have "**** *** **** **** ***. You will drop to the welfare level. I already dropped to a Zero - lets see how low I can go.

Hence the fundamental flaw with a system like this.

You voiced an opinion and because it was against the gain/management you lost points. Nothing to do with poor advice on a BOATING related topic. Conversley you could simply post a funny joke and gain points. And if you are active in the PP section, look out, it could get ugly.

So this could very well turn into a popularity contest.

I think I said that 20-something pages ago. It's a cyber peeing contest.

But it's not going to change no matter how much anyone complains. Too much stubbornness. To much pride to admit they made a mistake. Whatever.

You have to love the anonymity of the rating system. It permits keyboard cowards to flex their muscles.

The system could be tweaked to automatically sign the rating comments. I wonder why they don't do that?
