Last Friday morning we cast off from Whitby Marina on a beautiful calm Lake Ontario at 6:15am. We headed out past the lighthouse and the entire lake was as calm as I can ever remember. I set the cruise at about 18knots and the boat ran like a top. Our destination was the Murray Canal which would allow us access into the Trent Severn Waterway. I figured the trip would be in the neighborhood of about 5 hours from cast off to the Murray Canal.

About 2 hours into the trip, the winds picked up and the waves followed. I estimate the waves to have been at least 7 footers with some around 10ft. You can see from the picture below the spray breaking from the bow. Thank goodness for the bridge enclosure, it was all that kept us warm and dry.

At 12:30, we had reached the mouth of the Trent and stopped for fuel. A quick splash to get us up to Cambellford where Mike (Whiskey Wizard) recommend a fuel stop.

This gas station is at the side of the road in the town of Campbellford. The fuel pumps are shared with the vehicle traffic. Unbelievable price per litre, only $0.93! They also let us spend the night at their gas wall and use their hydro and water, for FREE!

The next day started out as a beautiful sunny day, but by noon, the weather was horrible. Cold, "monster" winds, and white caps in every body of water that wasn't a river. The highlight of Saturday was the Kirkfield Lift lock, the highest liftlock in the world.

Glad to see the weather finally let them open the Trent so you could get home.

Lyndon that Esso in Campbellford is always the cheapest on the Trent. My mom and step dad lived there for a year or so. I sure miss going there a great little town.

I always thought Peterborough was the highest lift lock in the world. Kirkfield looks a lot smaller. Learn something every day.

I see you made the trip in 4 days very nice, I thought it would take you 5 days. Don't you love those house boats, most of them are captained by people that don't have a clue. Linda, Joanne and I in 2000 went down the Trent to the town of Trent River my mom and step dad were living there then. We meet a couple on one of those house boats that had left food on the BBQ and tied to shore as they are told to, in the morning when they opened the BBQ there was a raccoon inside it. They were underway when this happened and the raccoon did not want to leave the boat by way of the water and the wife was screaming as loud as she could he left the wheel with it still in drive to have a look. The boat turned toward shore and as they rammed the bank the raccoon ran off. They thought the whole thing was funny, sure glad I was not near them when he left the wheel while still in gear.

Georgian Bay is much nicer.

I got your messages. Good to see you home safely. I'm sure the breaker issue is minor.

Ooops, my mistake Ken - I meant the Peterborough lift lock. The Kirkfield one was the last one.

Mike,

The breaker issue was minor - I changed it out for $26.95, all is good now.
