This is a typical weekend outing for us. Another month when the water warms up and it will be perfect.

Head out to our favorite anchorage and swimming spot. Hawk Island, Delanco NJ.
Start out with some swimming. My son giving the thumbs up. I went in for a few minutes , but at 67 degrees a bit chilly for me.

The boys swam for about 30-40 minutes.

Once they are chilled to the bone we head around the bend and into the Rancocas Creek. Calmer waters, less traffic. More relaxing for fishing.

They are only catching small chanel catfish, usually about 6-7 inches.
This was a pretty decent one. About 12-13 inches.

Around 6Pm head back to the docks for a pizza dinner and more fishing.
Catfish love pizza crust.
Checkout some of these. Ranged from about 18-22 inches.

Looks like a nice day. We did not make it out this weekend but spent Memorial day on the Delaware. We typically put in, in Bordentown and head south to Tullytown Cove for swimming and fun. Soon that water temp will be pushing 80 and I will be able to stay in all day with the kids.

My brother heads up that way a few times a season. I usually don't go much further north then Burlington Island.

Awesome pics!!!! Brings back so many memories! I grew up catching catties up and down the Rancocas Creek on a 16ft johnboat. I'm from Rancocas Woods and spent all my free time in the Green Acres woods along the banks of that creek.......or "crick" as we say in Jersey.

Thanks for sharing! Please keep them coming!

Small world. My brother in the other boat lives in Rancocas Woods.
At the corner of Acorn rd & Timberline Dr. The boat you can see in the dock photo (named Marooned) is owned by his next door neighbor. That guy and his wife graduated from Willingboro HS with my wife and I. Class of 84.

If you know the Creek then you know my wife's childhood house. She grew up in the house right next to the Willingboro VFW. It's not a Willingboro (Levitt) home.
I fished all through HS right in her back yard. Used to watch big boats get stuck on the sandbar every weekend.

My sister and her husband also live in the Woods. On Magnolia.

You mean you're docked about 100 yards from me. ;)
We're right over in Winter's Sailing Club. D dock.
My dock has the huge Bayliner (4588 I think) at the end, can't miss it.

We usually sit right at the start of the no wake zone by Hawk Island marina.
Boys catch fish like crazy (which keeps them happy) and we get to relax with no waves (which keeps the admiral happy).

This is from last summer, but the same spot.

Shot at Hawk Island Beach. Kids love it there.

Just an FYI.
Hawk Island Marina is putting in a gas dock. I also think he is setting up an outside seating area for a restaurant. Owner is really fixing the place up.

I was looking at the picture (one with your wife) I recognize that bridge in the backround. I believe I used to use that boat ramp right there. That was when I lived in Mt Laurel NJ

The Bridge is the Riverside/Delanco Bridge.

Just up the street in Riverside is the famous Philadelphia Watchcase Company Building. At one time they were the leading watch makers in the world.

The Hawk Island Marina is the place to the left. Small place, but the new owner (6th season) has been improving it every year. Same ramp we use. Believe it or not in all of the Dredge Harbor complex (5 marinas) not one functioning ramp.
Riverside Marina has one but its all over grown with vegetation. We've dropped a "suggestion" letter to our owners (they own Winters & Riverside) about getting it open again. I'd even help with the grunt work of cleaning it up.

You guys might find this interesting about the the Rancocas creek. There are some historians that believe a Civil War sub was brought up the creek to the area around the present day Lightrail line bridge , and scuttled. That's about 200 yards up stream from the Delanco'riverside bridge.
It was called the Alligator. It was tested in the creek before seeing service in the war.
