Well I know it's still February, but this qualifies as a "cruise".

All winter, we kept Harmony at my friend's marina, which is only 5 minutes from our apartment. However, we can't keep her there long-term, because it's 20 long miles to the ocean from there. So, we were very fortunate that our old marina still had a couple of slips available, and I got one of them.

Today was the day that we were delivering her from New Westminster to Richmond.

I waited until slack current in the river, then warmed up the engines and got away from the dock with the help of my good buddy Kent, who owns the marina.

As I rounded the bend in the river, our apartment was right in front of me (see pic, our building is the yellow highrise on the left).

After I took the pic, I sparked the boat up to 25 knots, and the rest of the trip on the river was peaceful and calm...the river was like a sheet of glass.

Gisele had driven ahead to the destination marina, and was waiting on the dock as I pulled in. I spun the boat and backed into the slip without a single problem.

She's all tied up in her new slip now, ready for some boatin'

We were going to sell, but then this pesky economic meltdown happened.

We aren't going to give our boat away!

So, we'll wait out the meltdown and go boating a few times this summer, probably sell later on, when things turn around.

Good to hear it was a smooth trip, my wife brings selling up more often lately also. Lot of emotions about doing that from the two of us.

Mike,
Why do you want to sell the 305? Are you going bigger?

No, just so we can do other stuff, such as travelling. Can't afford to own a boat and travel! Gotta pick one or the other!

Hey - welcome back on the water Mike. Yesterday pm when we drove home on the upper levels it was 15C near Caulfeild and I got that 'gotta be on the water' urge again. Spring is almost here and the open Pacific is calling....

Strat, we owned a suite in Laguna Landing in the first economic meltdown in 1997. We bought there in 1996, for about 160k, had the place listed for sale in mid 1998 for about 90k. Could make a move for anything. Ended up with a crazy special assessment for about 40k to fix the place.

Long story short, we sold there in 2006 at a nice profit, after not living there and renting it out for about 5 years waiting out the market.

Bottom line though is that we survived to talk about it. Selling that condo finally got us back into boating. We now live in North Vancouver and that intial investment in real estate, despite the ups and downs of the last year or so, has been very, very good to us. For that we are most greatful.

Good luck to you.
