We couldn't have had better conditions (or company) for our pick-up and shakedown cruise.

The boat was located in Roche Harbor so we hitched a ride from our home port of La Conner on friends' Bayliner 45' and then spent the next four days enjoying some of the best autumn weather conditions we can remember having. Each day brought crisp mornings with full-on sunshine by noon followed by crystal clear evenings and a filling moon. It's terrific fun to be out boating when no one else is (except for our favorite yacht club cruising buddies, that is).The marina and WA State Park floats were empty, we had all the crab we wanted and the autumn foliage as seen from the water was beautiful.

Best part? The boat handled and performed just as we hoped. Saturday morning's foggy conditions meant we got to test the radar under perfect circumstances, too.

Did you bring it down to Shelter Bay?
We made it back in the water, and I was hoping to make it over to Pt. Townsend Saturday, but the admiral had other plans.
We'll be up again this weekend. Hope to see your new boat!

Yep, we're on our dock in Shelter Bay. Which, if I'm estimating correctly, is less than 500 yards from your own moorage. Give me a call if you come up this weekend .... we'll be around most of the time.

Winter crab is open in most of the sound until the end of the year, the problem is finding hard shell keepers.
