Bell Harbor has become one of our favorite short trips. Its about 2-3 hours away, depending on the weather and the mood. Left Tacoma early afternoon and pulled in about 4, after stopping for fuel in Des Moines. Walked through Pike Place market, and then down to Pioneer Square. I even 'sucked it up' and went for a ride on that giant ferris wheel. Leila loved it but it scared the poop out of me.
Found a great little Italian restaurant and ended up walking over to The New Orleans for some great blues/soul music over a couple Hurricanes. This a.m. walked up to the market and had breakfast with some folks we met who were here on a conference from St. Paul, MN.
Back to the boat and met up with Leila's two brothers. Relaxed for a while and headed back. Great way to spend a good part of the weekend. Now if we just didn't have to spend 100 bucks in fuel to do it......

If any of you other Tacaoma area folks are up to a similar trip sometime this winter. drop me a note. Heck...even you north sound folks can drop down and we can meet for a few beers, or, given the new law, a few tokes :woohoo:
Out next trip up will probably be Thanksgiving. My kid, his girlfriend and her daughter will be headed up for the weekend and they're looking forward to spending it on the boat.

We love going to Bell ourselves... We do the same things too. have to hit the market, get fresh bread, check out all the visitors and enjoy the harbor area...

On our 35th wedding anniversary I asked what she wanted to do that day. We ended up taking the boat to Bell and eating pizza at Belltown Pizza... really a lot of fun...

Sometimes during the summer it can be- but this time of year, it's as easy as hailing them I the radio during your approach and pulling in.

I have never had an issue getting into Bell unless it was a big holiday, even in summer... Its because we can fit in most places that go slows can not... You can make reservations however... and if you cancel them, you have a year to use the night you paid for...

Definitely an advantage of a small boat. You learn quick to pick up that phone and confirm your reservations. Nowadays though, it's not a problem getting reservations. You just need to plan ahead.

We are in Tacoma and went up to Bell Street Pier many times in our 2252 and also when we had our 2258. Small boats can always get fit in someplace. It is truly a great location to explore interesting venues within a short walk. Sometimes we went to the Hyway 99 Blues Club across the street for music and dancing. Or took a cab uptown to Triple Door or Jazz Alley for entertainment.

Now that we have our 4788 we definitely want to head up to Seattle and have our own floating hotel. With the cost of moorage and fuel we still are probably saving from the cost of a hotel room and car parking charges. Plus we have all the comforts!

Hope to see you up there sometime.

we always call ahead. Even this time of year. If there is a game at century link or a visiting yacht club it fills up fast.
