Took the first real sucessful trip in my new to me Bayliner 32' conquest. I bought a distressed boat and I was a little concerned as previous trips ended in break downs and issues but at this point I was pretty confident that all the serious issues had been repaired. We left Dagmars Everett wa. Late afternoon Friday after a short prep time. Conquest on the hard.

.Had the boat put in and was all ready to go. For those not familiar with Dagmars the boat is stored on the hard. Call in and the boat is in the water with in 15 minutes

We left Everett marina after fueling and doing a pump out late afternoon. We headed north going between whidbey and camano islands we cruised at around 7-8 kts until it was nearly dark and we stayed on the hook for the first night.

At just before dark we anchored out on the northwest shore of camano island.

[img]/media/kunena/attachments/vb/808512=40847-FORREST SUNSET.jpg I have to admit I stressed about anchoring out and woke several times but in vain as the boat was always where it was supposes to be. When I first went to bed it was quite noisy and about 3 am I woke and it was perfectly quiet and no boat rocking I had to get up to see if I was on hard ground but all was good.My son and I woke early and we fished but had no success as we cruised toward deception pass. As we rounded the corner we had to stop and anchor for a bit because of a big fog bank. We just stooped and we all ate breakfast. After a couple of hours the fog cleared and we were on our way. Here is nearing deception pass. We had a couple of fish on in this area but didn't land any

After leaving deception pass we headed directly out into the San Juan islands and stepped up the speed a bit up to 20 kts. Passed through thatcher pass and got into a little rough water but the boat took it great and we had to weave through several snail boats. Here is a pic of what I believe to be my baker from inside the SJ islands

We arrived at Friday harbor San Juan island around 2pm on Saturday. We had no reservation and I was actually surprised that I was able to get a rather good transient slip.I was also amazed at the weather . So far no breeze to speak of nearly clear blue skies and in the 80's. In the past many times even in the summer I had to dawn a jacket to stay warm.We ate dinner and then headed into town to have the ritual ice creame cone. One cannot go to Friday harbor without having ice cream from the local shop.My son wants to be a airline pilot so he couldn't help but watchkng the many seaplanes coming and going.

One of the various keepers in a 5gal bucket.
[img]/media/kunena/attachments/vb/808526=40852-FRIDAY HARBOR CRAB.jpg But wait we aren't done yet. Apparently you can catch more than just crabs in a crab pot. Here we have a sun star a crab and a flounder maybe a baby halibut I don't know and a crab. I guess that is what tuna chicken and hot dogs get you.
[img]/media/kunena/attachments/vb/808526=40853-FRIDAY HARBOR SEA BOUNTY.jpg We also did some night light shrimping and got a few.
[img]/media/kunena/attachments/vb/808526=40854-SHRIMP FRIDAY HARBOR.jpg .We stayed at Friday harbor Saturday afternoon and left after breakfast around 10am for the west side of San Juan island. We looked for orca whales but only saw seals and Dahl porpoises and lots of fishermen. We did a little fishing our selves for maybe an hour.

One of the joys of life - no matter how old you or they get, your sons never turn down a chance to go fishing or cruising with dad (and mom). Ted

After a little fishing and seeing how smooth the straits were we decided to beat feet him through the straits. Made it from the west side of SJ island in just a little over 2hours. I don't know maybe a 50-60 mile trip.I must of had a good current and tail wind in my favor as the boat often ran at 25 mph + and at times 28 mph it normally runs at 20-21 at 3200rpm.

Here is a short video of the water in the straits. Ran this way for 2 hours + .The boat ran flawlessly the entire time. Started right up every time and ran cool and strong with only a little more than 100 gallons of gas used. It was probably a 120-150 mile round tripWe got back to our home port at about 5pm after fishing for a while with no luck but it was fun anyway. All was fun
