We are thinking of heading down to Puget sound and was wondering the must stop places. we are going to stop at Friday Harbour then Anacortes. Then not sure where we are going after that. we have about 6 or seven days.

Bell Harbor in Seattle is a great place if you want to walk around the waterfront down town.

We really enjoyed Blake Island, they have a Salmon dinners and a Native American dance presentation with Native American art on display. The Island also offers easy walks and has an interesting history as well. The harbor can be crowded on weekends and there are mooring buoys too.

Port Hudson Marina at Port Townsend is nice. We liked exploring Fort Warden State Park where turn of where restored century military housing and gun emplacements are on display where they once protected the entrance to Admiralty Inlet.

We live in Edmonds and boat a lot in this area. Some of our favorite places to go:
LaConner - great restaurants and shopping, very nice little town
Port Townsend - cute, funky town, neat wooden boat center, great Saturday Farmers Market
Edmonds - quaint downtown area, good Saturday Farmers Market
Brownsville - best fuel prices in the Puget Sound
Poulsbo - pretty downtown, good artsy shopping
Belltown - great moorage for convenient access to downtown Seattle
Blake Island - well-known Native American salmon dinner and show

We just spent a couple of nights in LaConner and loved it. Our yacht club spends the 4th of July at Fisherman Bay on Lopez Island and that is a great stop as well. If you want to go through the locks you can visit Lake Union and Lake Washington. I don't mind going through the locks but it isn't everyone's cup of tea. Have a great trip!

Friday Harbor is indeed good but I would bypass Anacortes and go to LaConner instead. If you do stay in Anacortes, Cap Sante Marina puts you blocks from town. Brown Lantern Pub is our favorite. Dont judge by the looks of it?
Watch the charts/channel and depth on the way in and out of LaConnor. The current can make you look bad when pulling into the Marina. It is an interesting town.

With only 6-7 days, it'll be tough to get out of the San Juan Islands.
They have so much to offer, its worth it to take your time to explore them.
And then next year venture further beyond.

Thanks for the replies. We have spent a fair bit of time at Friday harbour over the years. So we are just stopping there for the night. We are spending 6 or 7 days in the sound and on the way back we are stopping at a few spots in the san Juan.

Go through the Ballard Locks and enjoy Lake Union and Lake Washington as well... that would be different...

+1 Port Townsend (Boat Haven) great and it has three ice cream stores within an easy walk... good showers as well (the marina, not the ice cream shops)...

Kingston is good to. Nice town and good bars/taverns (and ice cream)... they even allow free use of the electric car to get groceries...

+1 Blake Island, for solitude but not over the weekends, Pouslbo by way of Keyport for a quick lunch and check out the free Navy Underwater museum within 2 block walk from 6 hour free stay docks... then head to Poulsbo...

Bremerton for all the great places to eat, the free Naval museum, tour the USS Turner Joy, the two nice parks, good showers (free), new indoor theater and walk on ferry to Port Orchard...
