So, an anchorage that normally has 15 to 20 or more boats and for most of the glorious weekend we shared it with on 3 or 4 other boats. Where was everyone? It was a beautiful weekend with full on sun and temps in the upper 70s. Great weekend for doing a stress test on the genset repairs and trying out our new kayaks before heading out on our month long trip to Desolation for August. :D

I'm guessing folks didn't check the regular weather.... I was surprised to see 70's on Lopez when it was near mid-80's - 90 over here in Skagit County. We're planning on going over to Fisherman's Bay on the 3rd and just happen to notice how much cooler and nicer is was over there.

Just out of interest, cause we're wanting a couple of kayaks... what kind did you get and where on the 38 are you going to stow them?

We bought the Emotion Sports and we have a cockpit hardtop so they fit up there just fine. Otherwise they'd be up on the foredeck. They are 9' 6" and weigh less than 50 lbs each.

I found the same here at the lake. Some years ago you wouldn't be able to launch during the weekend when you arrived after 9am as they close the ramp(s) when parking is full. This year even at noon we had no problem. Looks like the economy prevents a lot of people from going boating....

Maybe everyone was getting ready for the 4th. It was nice to have the place pretty much to ourselves but at the same time it seemed strange.

Thanks for the tip on the Emotion line of kayaks, I like the 9'8" length as it will fit on our cockpit hardtop. Now I've got to see about getting one in Canada or maybe making the trip to Friday Harbor and pick 2 up there.

I was called 3 times this year to purchase moorage when though I told them not this year and the 3rd time the lady was all but begging. Usually there is a waiting list.

Costco has some yellow ones for $350 each. I bough a pair of them and they are comfy and come with paddles.
My neighbor bought them for $300 with a coupon.
Right now I have them strapped to the deck rails.

Similar experience here! Asked the marina what their rate is for a dry storage space (boat on trailer) knowing that they are posted on their website. First round they quoted 25% less than that and now they call me once in a while with an even lower price..... Once they get close to what I pay now a bit away from the lake I'll take it.

Thanks for the reminder about Hunter Bay. We have never tried it but since we moor at Anacortes Marina , we really don't have an excuse do we?

We spent the 4th, 5th 6th in Sydney Harbor and there were slips empty the whole time. Weather perfect. Love it there. Town of Sydney is great!

Heard the crabbing is pretty good in Hunter Bay?
