We are members of The Blackwater Pyrates ( www.blackwaterpyrates.com ), a civic organization made up of about 200 active members, all boaters, in the Milton, Florida area. Our primary function is promoting watercraft safety, supporting the Coast Guard Auxiliary and most importantly river cleanup of the Blackwater River, one of the purest sand bottom rivers in the nation. The club also looks after the sites of 18 historic wrecks from the 1800’s to preserve them future generations. We had our Spring overnight this weekend at Skull Island, Lon 30o 31.45', Lat 87o 01.63', really a spit of land on Blackwater Bay. We had about 50 Pyrate families and were joined by members of the South WindBay Sailing Association on their way back from their semi-annual 3 day cruise. About 25 sail boats, mostly homemade, comprised their fleet and had some really neat boats.
