We cruised to Mary Ester, FL today to check out Specter Island. Located in the Hurlburt AFB reserve on the Intercoastal Waterway it is named for the C130 Gunship. Known to locals and Great Loopers it has an excellent anchorage on the south side of the island. Here is an overhead of the island with Hurlburt AFB to the north and Santa Rosa Island, part of the AFB and off limits, to the south.

Is is about a 75 mile round trip from our marina. We pushed off at 0900 and got back to the marina at 1600----full day but fun.

Very nice! I live in the area. Where is the best place to put in if I'm heading to Spectre Island? I'm new to owning my own boat and am not particularly familiar with the areas waterways.

There are a lot of them.
Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park Boat Ramp in Niceville
Cinco Bayou Boat Ramp In Ft. Walton Beach

Two closest to the island are

Marler Park Boat Ramp just over the bridge on Okaloosa Island
Legendary Marine Boat Ramp on Okaloosa Island too.

Thank you, That seems like a decent website. I like The Interactive Cruising Guidebook. She'll be in the water soon probably out at Specter Island first.
