My Son and I went fishing on the weekend. We didn't catch any fish but we did see some whales... very cool.

Awsome shots! Those are the things that us inlanders dont get a chance to see, I really appreciate it! My 1 year old daughter always wants to see the whales when we log on here so for that I am thankful!!

Morecoffee - that looks like your off the Bedfords, looking back at Church Rock. I try to go to Church most sundays. Seen Orcas and Grays there but never Humpbacks. Great shots. Ted

Hi Playdoughted,

Your right it was off the Bedfords. I spent a lot of time out there 25 years ago and like you, saw the occasional killer whale pod. I always enjoyed it when they came through. I never saw humpbacks though and did not realize they even came into the Juan De Fuca Straight.

I recently purchased the boat I have now and it was our first trip out to that area when we spotted them. On our our way back in I asked my son how he liked fishing? He replied "Fishing is OK but what really made it neat was the whales". At that moment I felt all the money I had just spent on the boat was worth every penny.

Cheers

MC - saw your buddy or one of it's mates in Race Passage just after noon today. Tried to get a shot but the camera's batteries were dead and by the time they were switched he was gone, never saw him again. If you weren't out, it was an awesome November day - Flat calm, no wind, no rain, just a slight swell. Did manage to hook-up twice with winter springs - one small one in Pedder that was released and a 6 lb'er in Whirl Bay that was sooooo good for dinner. Ted

Nice pics! For anyone that isn't familar with humpbacks, they should be fattened up and heading south this time of year to breed in warm waters. Whenever I see them I just want to stick my head in the water so I can hear them. They are really awesome, I'm glad we didn't allow them to get harvested to extinction. One of these days I hope to get in-water footage of some, I've been right on top of them several times and just too slow to get my gear together. Next time, tell your son to stick his head in the water, I'm sure it's cold but he'll be glad he did!

I will tell him but I am not sure he'll do it. The water here is very cold...
