Well, I just got back from my inaugural run of the CLC. It is a TeamCrownline sponsored event that runs appr. 65 miles up the Cal Sag Channel, into Lake Michigan, into DuSable Harbor for a lunch break, down the Chicago River, along the Illinois Sanitary Canal, back to the Cal Sag, the home to Worth, Illinois, where we launched.
Perfect day, but a day late. Scheduled for Saturday, but postponed a day for weather....so only about 40 of the 70 registered boats made it. I went on Matt's (Download Complete's) boat with his girlfriend Susan. skygazer and Mr. Gazer couldn't make it, so it was just us 3! tbkohl has run this in the past.
Link to Pics.....70 at the start. Mid 50's on the lake with 2 ft waves, 4 ft. wake!
Matt said he did in '04, but due to rough conditions, they did the "half loop" and didn't enter Lake Michigan. His boat is 4000 dry....I couldn't imagine him on the Lake with his 1850, although I have seen the pics! Several 180 Crownlines out today....they got guts!
Great pics, man! We still need to upload outs from Susan's cam...
Anyway, it was a great time. Great company too. Everything went really well, I think. I will admit to being preoccupied with the way my boat was running, or should I say, not running. It became very obvious to me within minutes of launching that things were't well in the engine room, and When I hit the throttle I could tell. So, off she goes back in for more carb work.
But otherwise, it was a great run. The lake wasn't too happy with us, and we had a couple stiff 3 footers out there that were spine-compressing. My boat did okay, but I feel sorry for that 17 foot Crownline that made the run. That took skills!
