We left Friday evening in brilliant sunshine, for Pirates Cove, a nice little anchorage on DeCourcy Island (in BC's Gulf Islands). However, when we got there, the wind was funneling in too much for our liking. Since daylight was fading fast, we went quickly to another spot, Degnen Bay on Gabriola Island.

We spent the rest of the weekend rafted to our friends, swinging on the hook in relative shelter, compared to the winds that howled outside the bay!

On Saturday we went for a walk from the Public Dock in Degnen Bay to Drumbeg Provincial Park. This is a beautiful park, perched on the tip of the island, overlooking Gabriola Pass. There are groves of Garry Oak and Arbutus trees everywhere, as well as strategically placed benches so you can sit and drink in the view.

Here are some of the sandstone formations on the island shore...

...and here is the small cove, with a white sand bottom, which is right in the middle of the park.

Yesterday (Sunday) we gritted our teeth and blasted back home across Georgia Strait in 20 kt NW winds, never getting below 25 kts boat speed. Probably 3 foot sharp seas, taken on the port bow quarter. We took a TON of seawater on the windshield, the Admiral was ready with towels to catch the water that blew through the zippers, but no harm done. The sky was that brilliant dark blue that you only get in autumn. We got to our marina at exactly slack current and slipped right in to our spot.

Hopefully not the last trip of the year!
