Dear all,

I am planning to buy an used Bayliner 742 Cuddy. In a german forum I have read about regular problems with the bow thruster. Is this problem know by the community and does it affect more or less every 742?

www.boote-forum.de/attachment.fphp?attac...=727506&d=1478285875

Thank you so much!

Best regards
Alex

Alex, welcome to BOC! I am afraid you might not get too much response to your question. There are only a couple Euro-Cuddy series owners here on BOC; 3-4 642 owners and one other recently joined member with a 742. In fact, I didn't even know the 742 had a bow thruster! The German forum might be your best source.

Sorry, I can't help, but again, welcome! The cuddy owners on BOC are few, but we are a happy bunch! B)

Wouldn't think there would be much use for a bow thruster on a boat that size. Though I'd be concerned about the crack that seems to be developing around the housing of it in the pic if that's the one your looking at.

I second that concern. That's a serious crack.

Looking at the Bayliner website, the bow thruster is an option. Several used 742s for sale in Europe with the bow thruster and it still appears as an option in 2017. Unless some of our Europe-based BOC members can chime in with things they may have heard, it looks like forums with a larger European membership will still be your best bet for info, since the 742 isn't available in the US.

I saw the same crack on a 65' sailboat. The shipwright making the repair said - I believed he called the 'tube' a 'fairing' - it was never embedded and re-enforced properly.

If you can get at it from the inside, it shouldn't take much to repair it. He did it in about 2 hours over a couple of days, and he had bottom paint to deal with.

Dear all,

thanks a lot for your feedback - highly appreciated.

In the German forum three owners have got this problem.

Do you know other european forums for Bayliner boats, unfortunately I have not found an other forum in german or better english language.

I wish everybody a nice weekend.

Best regards
Alex

The crack looks major. There are a few good photos of folks repairing bow thrusters on this website. The repair would be significant and best done by a professional. Have you discovered a similar crack in the one you plan to purchase? I would also be curious if you can't just fill it, removing the thruster. Best of luck!!!
