I love beer! So much that I have a kegerator at home!

However, I have made it a rule that I don't drink while boating. Nada, zip, zilch, not even one. When I first started boating, I would let myself have one drink and only one drink, usually if we stopped off for dinner. But I quickly realized that if I was only going to have 1 then I might as well just have none!

Jealosy has kicked in though, watching other people enjoy a cold frosty beer on my boat while I am the designated el capitan! So, I have recently ventured into the realm of NA Beer! Best of both worlds!

So far I've had O'douls and Sharp's. I liked the Sharp's better, the Odoul's had a funky taste that I couldn't place until I was reading some reviews. They said it had a cardboard taste and it popped in my head "That's it!". The Sharp's seemed much better, but I am still searching.

So please share your thoughts, recommendations, etc on NA beer here!

Years ago Budwieser had a beer called LA. It was not non-alcoholic, but was very low in alcohol. 1.5% if I recall. (I don't think you could drink them fast enouph to ever get to .08 or what ever the legal limit is!)
I loved that stuff and have never found a NA or LA beer since that tasted good. I am also curiouse as to what else might be out there!

Imported NA beers are pretty good. Beck's has one as does Warsteiner.

I've discovered that I can remove the alcohol from beer myself, just by drinking it. ;)

I've heard those are good, the only problem is I like to stick to cans as they are so much easier to dispose of!

If we're out for a long day, I enjoy a couple of beers and a lot of water. Never can tell when you're going to need a clear head under pressure. I have been boarded without notice and safety checked by the Coast Guard and had DFG check my catch and license. Once when leaving Channel Islands Harbor for an island trip a couple of rookie CG officers came aboard for a Homeland Security training stop. They checked the boat pretty thoroughly and had no problem with my pistol. The guy I am looking at in the pic saw it and didn't even acknowledge it. They were wet behind the ears, so I had a little fun with them! I had a couple of beers in their honor after they left. :D

Yeah the bottles are a bit of a pain, Especially since you can't crush them. Takes up a lot of extra space. The Beck's may be available in cans, And I think Beck's is the better of the two.

Well, I just did Sharp's again yesterday. It's all I can find in cans! I'm going to keep looking, though!

I took some Old Milwaukee NA out last time and I have tried O'doul's as well
the Old Milwaukee was better and a great substitute! Our lakes are starting to really enforce BUI and even a hint of it gets u the breathalysers

I only know of two non-alcoholic beers that do not taste like piss. Root beer, and birch beer. The other ones I tried were so bad, I'd rather just have a ginger ale.

Good for you cbrenthus, I can't say I'm as responsible as you since I enjoy a few beers and/or G&T's on the hook or while driving the boat, but I'm usually busy swimming and sweating it off so I'm not "buzzed".

A few regular beers plus lots of activity seems to be the combo that works for me. Keeps the gut from getting too out of control as well.

Well, I did my first overnighter a week ago, and once I was docked I was hitting the real beer and rum! But, I wasn't going to be going anywhere until the morning, so it was OK.

Honestly, I might imbibe in a beer or 2, but one thing is that after a whole day on the boat, I'm exhausted, and I still need my a-game to retrieve and trailer. I'm just afraid that if I throw a beer or 2 into the mix, I may make some stupid mistakes retreiving or trailering and whatnot.

I have started to keep one real beer in the cooler, though, for after I get back to the storage place and am flushing my motor! That beer is great!

If I kept my boat at a marina and didn't have to trailer, I might have a beer or 2 over the day, but I don't know. I guess what I like about doing the NA beer is I can have all I want and not have to worry about how many I've had (though at up to .5% alcohol, I have to be careful because 8 NAs equals 1 lite beer, so if I drink more than 16 in an hour I might get above the limit!

16 in an hour!! You still wouldn't be able to properly dock or trailer your boat as you would be in the head non-stop ROFLMAO :D

why not just cut out the fatty carbs if you aren't interseted in a buzz anyway. Go with a bottle of water or gatorade. IMO

I used to drink tons of Gatorade, and then one day I looked at the label and HOLY $HIT!!!! 100 Calories and 28g carbs! That's the same at lite beer, markedly more than near-beer.

I now drink a lot of water with a squirt from a plastic lime in it. That way I can save the calories for the alcohol times :)

wow, you are right. There is a new one though, called G2 (Gatorade 2) It has about 1/2 of sugar and carbs as regular. I think it is made with Splenda instead. Maybe a better route.

Years ago the real stuff got the best of me and I have managed to stay away from it the last 29 years. Thank God for NA. Odouls is skunk pi%%. I used to drink Sharp's which was pretty good until I discovered Old Milwaukee NA and Busch NA. These two are as close to the real stuff as I have found.
