This site is great. I bought a boat two years ago..............on a whim. I moved from the lake and put it up in storage but now I'm ready to take on the next phase of my boating experience. I have taken the boating course and have my license, but I've only been out once on my own. So, I'm a little scared and could use the support! Hope everyone is having a great fall day.

Welcome aboard Lisa.
Look at the bright side you have 7 months to find a willing captain to show you the ins and outs of the boat. B)

Welcome, the boating class teaches the rules but not the practical of how to operate the boat. Either find a friend who has boating experience or hire a captain to teach you. There are companies that do this.

Welcome Lisa, Where are you located? Should put it in your signature line as well as your boat. Im sure you will get the best advice for your boating out here. I know it has helped me a ton over the years! Remember, boating is more than starting the engine and driving. Get to know your boat and you will enjoy it much much more.

Thanks, that's very good advise. I do have one friend who actually owned a motor boat and have a commercial captain license. I guess I'll ask him to come up and show me the ropes.

We just bought in Canaan. We have a small lake about a mile from the house. Perfect for an inexperienced boater.

Welcome aboard BOC.

Are you going to be trailering the boat or keeping it in a slip. If slip a great place to practice docking is the fueling dock. They usually have bumpers galore. Pick an off peak time, let the deck hands know you want to practice, give them each a tip and they will more than likely offer helping hands.

If trailering find an open parking lot, like a school on a Sunday. Place a few cones or even cardboard boxes work out to simulate a dock you need to line up with. And practice.
